XPS2 shipped - Dell UK - Page 9

i basically just phoned and said.

'i want to retunr my machine'

asked why i said it didnt suit my needs, had spent hours with tech support and it couldnt do one thin i wanted it to do and on that basis i didnt want it.

they said what if we could give you discount? i orginally said no... and again they talked to me a bit more and still said i wanted to return it.

placed me on hold and offered me 20% discount to keep machine (bare in mind this is already after ive had like £600 discounted on order)

i still orginally said no and asked them to call me back to arrange pick up. but now that i think about it i'm beginning to think i should take the discount i mean £1500ish for my system is just sick, and then ebaying or selling privately. Really makes u wonder how much their mark up really is.

oh i just called customer service, 0870 9020010 option 3 then option 2

I still don't think you have a hardware problem anyway, so I would take their discount, try to fix the problem yourself and if you're still can't get it to work you can auction it off for a nice profit on Ebay. Especially with the current delays on the systems in Europe. Win-Win I suppose - keep it.

yeah thats what im thinking....wont go into my problems as been round them over and over again :P but looks like some good will come of this

Yeah, I just read your comment about the Pentium M not being to handle several processes at once which seemed to be a bit ridiculous, that's all.

Simon, I've just PMed you

well for whatever reason after speaking for hourse with tech support doing all the tests they could throw at it and a full restore the laptop would still not do what i want it to. Tech Support assures me nothing is wrong with the system and must be to do with the game well it works fine on my 9100.

End of the day for whatever reason it wont do what i want it to do so really not much else i can say. :P

But i'm gonna do alright out of the deal and probably turn a little profit so not to fussed.. Might look at picking up and xps2 in the next six months when my next bonus comes in but for now as i can only afford one system its gotta go. Dont get me wrong I think the XPS2 is a great system.

I'm still wondering about what exactly the issue might be, though, as it sounds pretty strange and in fact you might end up having the same problem with a different system, if it comes down to a software issue.
well it runs on my 9100 wireless and wired, fine my friends dimension 8400 fine infact every other system ive ever played on with atleast a gig of ram and decent GPU has run multiple accounts fine. oh well definately a head scratcher...will see when i get my xpsGen4 destop and if it dont work i smell another discount :P!

oh on my gen4 they have a freee 19in fp monitor coming wiht it. which i didnt want i wanted the 2405fpw (ended up getting it for like 150extra or somehtin nominal like that) but i got my order confirmation a little while ago and not only am i gettingthe 24inch screen but the 19inch screen is on there aswell :P

im really loving dell lately :P

Just received my shipping confirmation email

Sorry for the pointless post, but I'm stoked! Last night it was still saying it would ship on the 19th...

mine also says shipping on the 19th...could I be so lucky? (still in pre-production according to the dell site )
Just got mine today and only ordered it last Thursday which seems very unfair given what others have had to go through, I didn't have a DVD Burner on mine so maybe that is where the delay is.

Only had a chance to have a quick look at it so far as I had to go back to work, but the sparkle problem looks pretty bad, I may end up returning it if I don't get used to the problem in the next day or so.

There were also a few scratches on the back cover.

I heard that might just be some protective plastic screen on it that you can peel off?

But the bit about the dvd writer seems plausible now, and might be the reason. All of the laptops have obviously just been waiting for that part.
I thought I'd already removed the film from the screen but might not have done as I was all in a rush (had to take time off work to get the dlivery and then rush back in)

I'll have a proper look tonight, thanks for the advice
post #175 of 182
pretty sure it's the DVD writer. I have a 9300 still in pre-prod and a friend ordered the exact same but with a cd writer. he got it delivered in 5 days, mine is in pre production for that long now
post #176 of 182
after all this grief with my xps2 and delivery i was all set for a drawn out process on my xpsgen4 desktop especially as was told 10 day lead time for the x850 platnium card.

ordered yesterday morning at like 1130 am, and you can imagine my suprise when i went back to my desk after client meeting to find a voice mail from walsh western asking to arrange delivery...this is all less than 24hrs after order mind...

Phoned dell just to confrim they were shipping the right order yup everythigns spot on. placed order at 1130am shipped 1330.. im shocked truely shocked. im gonna love my desk for the time being having my new xps2, xpsGen4 underneath and my lovely 2405fpw screen... Gonna make it harder to part with the xps2 with all that lovely hardware on display together :P

anyone know of any good desktop sites like this one?
Hmmmm, it does look a bit like the effect of a plastic cover, but if it is one its very tight with no obvious edge where it can be peeled off
post #178 of 182
update: still in pre production, since 7th april 2004. eta is 19/4 according to the site but I'm starting to doubt it...
