Karatekid3d's Sager 5680 Review. . .Lots of pictures - Page 3

Start a poll to see how common the dead pixel thing is with Sagers.

Maybe the LCD manufacturers send only the good ones to certain companies, and send the rest (ones with 1 or more dead pixels) to others?

I highly doubt that though...

Has anyone received a SAger 5680 without a dead pixel?

I've personally already heard of 3-4 people with no dead pixels on 5680s...

alright since i guess adam is pretty buzy (it is a weekend) i'm trying to host the pictures over multiple angelfire accounts for now. The first 5 or so should be up now and all but one should be up within the next few min. Feel free to keep the requests rolling in.

Oh and i ran Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and with everything on high it ran very good at 1024x768 and also ran very well with some of the texture and color depths at 16bit at 1600x1200. I'm sure it could run with more stuff turned up, but that's just what i tried. Oh and my 3dmark 2003 score with no tweaking and lots of crap installed was around 2850 or so.

Sure, i'll try to have some up tommorow of SOF II, MOHAA, and Maybe BF1942. Just give me time cause i have to set up another angelfire account, don't want my pics going down again because of bandwith limitations.

Hey guys;

I got mine Friday morning but unfortunately havent had the opprotunity to do a full review.

Thing about drivers:

1) I looked at the date of the Beta and the WHQL drivers and the Beta ones were a month or so newer.
2) I remembered that somewhere on the forums people were told to use the non-WHQL drivers.

Thus, I installed the Beta drivers and they run fine. I dont notice any sort of desktop weirdness like what KarateKid referred to. Plus, although I have only run Sandra MAX3 so far, they appear to be doing their job as I played BF1942 w/ Road to Roam and Secret Weapons at 1600*1200*32bit Colour at everything maxed out (LAN party) without problems (I only noticed lagginess with the mouse on the pick-your-spawn-point screen).

EDIT: Another thing regarding drivers: A friend of mine (Syndicat3) who got his 5680 on Friday as well, just went on ATi's site and got the standard Catalyst drivers for XP (not mobile; if you click mobile, it will give you a page asking you to inquire with your manufacturer). Apparently it works fine. I would like to know the pros and cons of such actions.

Thing about the keyboard:

I noticed that its a bit wabbly on the right side; if you use the characters on the right side, the sound is louder than the rest of the keyboard. Also, if you tab the little placeholders around the arrow keys, you can actually see it move. Is this normal or should this be fixed by something like the fix for the 8890s?

Heh; come to think of it, I already have a mini-review with the above .

Cheers.

Mikhail

Last year we had dell c'840, out of 30, none of them have dead pixels, now im not a fan of dell that why we're shopping for the best or the greater. Is the standard screen better than the wide angle as far as No Dead Pixels, or is this a sager thing that people have to live with?
Dead pixels are a part of life. Do you have any idea how much a UXGA LCD would cost if the manufacturer had to throw away 4 out of 5 displays because of a dead or stuck sub pixel?

Io.. to be honest man, that is just a convienient excuse for MFGs to get away with cheaper products..

ANyway, if i do get a dead, i wont be too pissed. If i get a stuck, i will be pissed.

Why would a stuck pixel piss you off more then a dead one?
Because a stuck pixle is bright and usually red, green, or blue. This really shows up in a dark area because its bright and it contrasts, and it will show up on a bright suface because its easy to pick out red on white, or blue on yellow ect.

A dead pixle just doesn't light, so it is almost 'drown out' by the bright pixles around it, or it doesn't show because its dark on dark.

This makes stuck pixles easier to detect and more annoying than dead pixles.

Nailed right on the head. At least the Dead one wont emit a bright, sucky color, like a stuck one. I ended up exchangin my desktop LCD after trying to live with a stuck green pixel.

Can't say i knew that. Damn i wish i had a dead pixel...ever thought i'd say that before. Yea my green pixel (hulk) is pretty annoying, only when it's on a black background usually though.

If you massage it, it might go away....
Not physically though...

The best way to try to remove a "stuck pixel", is to get something that will flash lots fo random colors, at a very high speed. Mnay times, that will un-stick a pixel...
Yes, physically...

Both are good methods.
Ehh... mashing LCDs are not good things. That is why alot brake. I would strongly advise against physical....

Details, please (Curious).
what details can i give?

Just get something that will rapidly flash random colors on your screen. If your pixel isnt stuck too badly, it may get unstuck, especially if the colors change rapidly. Some, will never get unstuck though. So, for the sake of hope, consider it permenant unless you fix it otherwise.

Hmm; I considered this to be a permanent physical defect at the point of manufacturing.
