On my 5680 i got AMAZING preformance at 1600x1200 and everything set at high. That alone let me know that my money was well spent, since on everything else i had tried Unreal 2 had run like crap.

best dead pixel policy

From Hypersonic's site:
http://hypersonic-pc.com/2001/systems-mobile.htm

"Hypersonic Aviator mobile systems come with an industry-leading dead pixel policy. Hypersonic guarantees that there will be no dead pixels in the center screen area and no more than one dead pixel outside of the center area. Additionally, Hypersonic offers a guaranteed no-dead pixel option on most models. Some restrictions may apply"

For $50 they guarantee you no dead pixels.

Personally, I'd still go with the Sager though

I would definitely pay the $50 if Sager offered the option.

Dell dead pixel actuals

The company I am working for orders a lot of dell laptops, and out of a few hundred latitude and inspiron models that passed through my hands, we have about 1 in 3 that has dead pixels, with about 50% of those having 2 or more dead.
Strangely enough, we have very few (less than 1%) that have any stuck pixels from dell.
Our screen sizes range from 14.1" to 15.4".

On the flip side however, out of about 40 Dell M-class laptops (graphic designers), not a single one had a stuck or dead pixel. Of course, these laptops seem to cost about $1k more than the comparable inspiron models. Also, Dell's official stance on the M-class is the same as any other laptop they sell.

Can you put a ruler up to the side of the 5680 and show me exactly how many inches tall it is?

Well then problem solved

Crap. I was about to order one of these but just realized it doesn't have even a single serial port. I know they're outdated, but I need one to hook up to a piece of high end audio equipment (TacT RCS 2.2X) that is software-controlled.

The 8790 is supposed to have one, based on the prelim specs posted here, may have to wait for that...

So get a USB to Serial port replicator. Here are a few i found really quick on www.newegg.com that are full port replicators WITH serial. I know there's some that are just deticated serial ones.

Unless things changed if your screen can go up to 1600x1200 it's the wide angle one. Some time during my christmas break i'll take some angle shots but no promises on how good they'll come out. Like i said in my review the pictures don't even come close to doing this screen justice. Without a doubt the niecest screen i've ever seen. I even went to best buy just to inform all the salesmen that my screen hits higher resolutions and it better then all of theirs
