Refurbs aren't a bad way to go. Most people take very good care of their laptops so its likely it won't look like it has been through a war. The hard drive will be wiped and have the latest version of XP installed and checked.

Were I on a tight budget, generally speaking, I'd have no qualms getting a refurb.

The refurbs are usually as new and checked out by Sony. They may even be better than new since they have been repaired or checked.

depends how much of a price break you get. my two experiences with refurbs have both been bad.. particularly in the dead pixel department. Usually there's a reason someone returns something.

I say GREAT DEAL ! I've had my S270 refurb for about 2 weeks now and love it. $2500 new , I paid $1700. Only 90 day warranty but they said you can buy more warranty just like a new one if you want. You get thirty days to try it out, just like a new model. Send it back if you don't like it...tim

Heh heh. There were some fantastic deals on today, most of which are gone. I was going to get a clearance A600, but instead I grabbed a refurbed A270 with 2Ghz Dothan, 1Gb and DVD burner for $1400. There were ones with the 1.7 Dothan for $1050 or so.

And for you S series fans, how about an S270 for $1037?

I would have nabbed more but my credit card was maxed.

Cheers

Hey doddsy, was that clearanced a600 for $1450? That's the one which should be arriving tomorrow. There was a big price difference for the next a600 so I grabbed that one. That same model currently configured is $1900.

I was looking at a clearance 2.0 A600 with 256Mb, 100Gb and DVD Burner for $1900, but the A270 for $500 less will suit me fine. Of course I could always grab the A600 and sell the A270 on eBay...

Either one should be appreciably faster than my A190.

Ordered an s270 for 1538 from the section... 1.7ghz 512mb ram (1x stick), 80gb 5400rpm hd, dvd burner. Now the waiting game.

Anyone have a good utility to see the HD specs?
