Just a couple of thoughts:
For the person getting those ugly, non-circular smileys, you might be running the screen in the Large setting. Instead of the usual 120 DPI, it might be running at 96 (note that I don't have a Dell with me so I might be a bit off on the numbers)
For DVD, I hear that using the software Dell provided is the reason why there are black lines running across the screen. If you view DVDs using Windows Media Player, it should be fine.
And hmmm... I know there was something else I wanted to bring up... OH, from what I gather, keyboard flexing is what happens when the left and right edges of the keyboard "sag" (or maybe it's when the middle of it rises up? eh, whatever, same thing).
I had a Dell 5150 for a little while and found that I couldn't stand the cheap casing. The whole notebook would seem to flex when I lifted it up with one hand. Now, I've never before had a notebook previous to the 5150 but the cheap build quality really turned me off. Hopefully my next one (a Sager 4780) will be of better quality.
One last thing: The guy who did tests to see how a Centrino compares to other processors, could you please verify those numbers? I have another thread up here http://talknotebooks.com/showthread.php?t=10565
and would love to hear more details about what you did and how the results came out. Thank you much.
