New HP zv6000 notebook with A64 3500+(?) CPU

Anyone knows what socket the zv6000 notebook has? I don't think there is a socket 754 A64 3500+ CPU, atleast not yet. Anyway it can be had with $500 instand rebate and $50 mail in rebate at the moment. All in all it looks pretty much like the older zv5000z only slightly better GPU (ATI PCI-Express) with more VRAM (shared) available. This notebook is all about value. Nothing high end here.

Yeah, and I just configured it with the essentials: Athlon64 3500, 128 MB Video, 15.4" WXGA Brightscreen, 1 GB main system memory, and an 80 GB hard drive, and NO extended warranty or other stuff, and the price is a rather high $1647 (and that is after their $500 instant rebate and $50 mail in rebate).

So, you can make a decent machine out of it, but it is no bargain.

The Compaq R3000Z actually works out cheaper with an Athlon 3700, WSXGA and similar specs.

Hey there,

THis processor is a socket 939 one.THis means you just spend 500$ extra to put in a athlon fx-55 .Cool huh!

btw

shall I look for this notebook or the compaq 4000 .I have the option of either this or the Asus A2k/z80k.

Hod do you know this is a socket 939 notebook?

Not certain, but the AMD approximate (with small variations) rating scheme is:
+200 for 200MHz clock increase
+200 for 2X L2 cache increase
+300 for 2X memory bandwidth (single channel -> dual channel)

This processor is 2.2 GHz with 512 KB cache, so if it is single channeled, it would be numbered 3200+, as with many other Newcastle chips. But the number 3500+ most likely means dual channel mem controller, which can only be present with S939 (S754 does not have enough pins). So unless AMD has some new secrete performance enhancement mechanism, it would be a Socket 939 DTR chip. (Perhaps the first of the long rumoured Newark core, derived from the Venice?)

Also, when you look at the "help me decide" section, it mentions that the 3500+ has 1000MHz Hypertransport one way (2000 duplex), which can only be present in S939 chips so far; so there is no reason to doubt that this is an S939 variety.

In fact the 3200+ A64 also seems to be S939, since the HTT is also listed as 1000MHz, and the chip itself is 2.0GHz with 512K L2. The S754 DTR chips numbered 3200+ has 1MB L2.

Heres some info and benchmarks

Athlon 3500+
hey there,

Does that mean the 939 socket athlon 3500+ is more efficient than the dTR 3700+ or for that matter better performer than turion.I think yes as turion is made to increase battery life while 3500+ is a dual core processor with high FSB speeds and hypertransport speeds. It is also a 90nm core.

This "3500+" is a special customized CPU for HP, as has happened in the past. Exactly how? I don't know, but I think it is higher clocked than a 3400+ (2.3 GHz), s754. Some HP machines offer a Sempron 3300+

Edit: Saw the link. I am speechless. 3500+ at 2.2 GHz with a 512 KB L2 cache IS socket 939 in a desktop.

I guess the Newark is officially here:

Maybe many of the DTR chips will begin to migrate over to S939.

Yes since if it was socket 939 you could put a dual core in it.
Yea I'm pretty sure that laptop is indeed socket 939 because as you can see, it uses the ATI Xpress 200M chipset, which was designed for socket 939 processors. Wow, I wonder if more manufacturers will start coming out with s939 notebooks.... =)

It is NOT Socket 939

If you look on the product page, Sempron is mentioned as aan option for CPU. But Semprons are Socket 754 not 939. I guess we still have to wait until a socket 939 laptop gets released :-(

Not necessarily, S939 Semprons are due to release sometime this year.
http://www.c627627.com/AMD/Athlon64/

The Paris Core (S754 Sempron) will be superceded by Palermo sometime this year. The first Palermo core Sempron is due out April 05, 90nm, 256K L2, 1.8GHz, Sempron 3200+. And this could be it.

It all makes perfect sense, since San Diego, Venice, Palermo, Newark are all sister cores, differing only in cache, Voltage, and AMD64 support (Palermo lacks 64 bit capabilities.)

I have yet to understand why they would use ATI XPRESS 200M graphics in this notebook...it just kills it.

Well, you do have a choice between shared 32MB memory, or dedicated 128MB VRAM.

But point well taken. Considering HP had been shipping notebooks with 440Go, this is a step up.

It is a socket 939. I checked the specs. It will at least support the A64 3800+ and A64 4000+ as well.

What about athlon fx-51.Will it work on this notebook.I can overclock this gpu and the sagers maybe will then be left behind.I asked yesterday with Eurocom ab8 the fx notebook but those stupids are not ready to give details .Hope they do it soon or else they loose my sale.

So will the hp notebook support athlon fx-55?

thanks
