URGENT Battery issue -- laptop will NOT charge battery

Hello all. I recently purchased a Latitude D600 from eBay. It came with a battery that ran out of juice. Thinking I got a defective battery, I bought a brand new battery. This second battery too WILL NOT CHARGE.

What is my problem? My laptop is a $1000 paperweight if it can't run on battery power. What is wrong with my computer? What can I do to fix it? I really, really need some help here; I prematurely left positive feedback for the buyer and he is unwilling to help me. Surely there must be something I can do.

SquareTrade does NOT protect buyers from sellers who are not SquareTrade Verified.

Is the charger the correct one for the laptop (out put volts & amps) - I think the D600 charger is a PA-12 19.5V 3.34A.
If it is the right one, does the LED on the charger stay on green steadily? If it flickers, or is not green then the charger is faulty.
To test the status of the battery, press and hold the test button on the battery for 5(ish) seconds - if the lights all go out then the battery is healthy, if any stay on then the battery is degraded.

Mr. Obvious says, "You got snookered. Since you left the feedback before testing the computer thoroughly-- NEVER DO THIS AGAIN-- you're s.o.l. on that front."

Better luck next time.

more on my problem

"Is the charger the correct one for the laptop (out put volts & amps) - I think the D600 charger is a PA-12 19.5V 3.34A."

Unfortunately, my charger meets those exact specs.

"If it is the right one, does the LED on the charger stay on green steadily? If it flickers, or is not green then the charger is faulty."

The light is always green as well. Perhaps trying out another charger is something I could do.

"To test the status of the battery, press and hold the test button on the battery for 5(ish) seconds - if the lights all go out then the battery is healthy, if any stay on then the battery is degraded."

Hmmm...I can't find a test button on the battery itself. Am I missing something? This seems pretty useful.

So most people are saying I'm screwed here...surely there must be something I can do. Is this a common problem at all? Clearly I shouldn't have left feedback but I'm still looking for a solution despite my eBay fiasco.

The button doesn't protrude. Press on the battery icon next to the lights.

Old thread but I thought I'd post a possible solution in case someone else comes across it...I had the exact same problem with my laptop (AC adapter would keep laptop powered but wouldn't charge the battery...so if I unplugged it, the laptop would shut off)

Turned out it was the power jack. Dell will charge you an arm and a leg but you can do a power jack repair (relatively) easily on your own or have it done from a third party company for less than $100 (I got mine done from a company I found on eBay...you send it to them and they send it back the day after they get it)

Just make sure the company has solid feedback
