Windows XP 64bit Edition

I just got my greedy little hands on the final version of Windows XP 64bit Edition. I am currently in the process of dual booting my M6807 with it to see how things go for out of the box driver installation and then I will run some benchmarks on the system to see if there is a performance increase. I should have the results later tonight.

o_O? Is it out already??

beta, perhaps......

If authentic....how did you get your hands on it and how much?

Thats right it went RTM today so I picked it up.

RTM is "released to manufacturing". Don't post where you got it, etc ... it will have to be deleted

It's on the MSDN subscribers website. It's perfectly legal. Build number 1830.
It is legal to beta testers (like you said, MSDN subscribers). It is not available legally to be "picked up".

Darn, and me without my MSDN subscription.

So I got it installed and I am very surprised as to what happened.

Surprise #1: The video is running at 32bit and goes up to 1024x768 with no problems!

Surprise #2: It found ALL hardware and installed the drivers for them (Yes even our broadcom wireless cards) right off the bat EXCEPT for the Soundcard and the Modem.

There is a Internet Explorer 32bit and 64bit shortcut.
Firefox 1.0.2 installs and runs perfectly.

I'm off to install the ATi 64bit Drivers (Beta 4), I will report back after with some 3DMark03 scores.

Alright I give up. ATi Beta 1-4 drivers fail to install on Windows XP 64bit Final, so does the latest Omegas and the Beta DNA 64bit drivers.

If anyone has anything they'd like me to test on Windows XP 64bit that doesn't involve graphic benchmarking post it here and I will do it before I destroy my 5gig partition and reclaim the space.

Were you going with the straight drivers, or hacked ones (to let you install for Mobility Radeon).

If all else fails try the ones on my site they worked with RC2: [url]
EDIT: Final version released, beta drivers removed from site

When Windows "Longhorn" or whatever it will be call. Do you guys think they will be making for both 64bit and 32bit processors? I'm just curious because I have a 32 bit processor, and hope it won't become obsolete.

Longhorn is due out next year, there is no way in hell Microsoft would expect 99% of the world to upgrade to 64bit processors just for their new shiny GPU intensive OS. Since they are making a Longhorn Server version also I would assume they will have both 32bit and 64bit versions.

They have stated that there will be 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Nope Anaconda, same error as all the rest. It looks like Windows XP 64bit is waiting for some official drivers from ATi. I would stay away from this version of Windows for a month or two. I will be whiping my partition later tonight so post those requests for benchmarks if you have any.

As for surprise 2, that is the same as RC2.

As for ATI drivers, the INF of the ATI drivers will not allow them to be installed on a mobility chipset. They must be modded. This has been the case with ATI drivers for quite some some (32-bit) and all 64-bit drivers since the Beta 1 version.

That's the same one anaconda has

Okay, one more question. Are there any huge advantage or something that would amaze us about having "64bit"?
