High Capacity Drive Recognition

Thread Starter
I have a sager 8886 and I have been trying to get an external 250GB hard drive (western digital 7200 rpm) to work with it using the firewire port.
The sager finds it sometimes sometimes it doesn't. I have to keep powering the drive on and off till sager shows the drive. When it does work the laptop constamtly hangs.
I tried installing intel accelerater 2.3 but I get the message the chipset is not compatible with this program.
Current system bios is 2.2. I did a diagnostic with SiSandra and it recommends a bios update to 2.3. Anyone know of this update and where to get it.
I have been to Sager site and clicked in 888e but did not see a bios update.

This is frustratring I have had to reformat my external drive several times because of the sager dropping it while I have been writing to it.

By the way the external 250 gb works fine in my desktop firewire port 1.6 mhz pentium 4.

Anybody got any suggestions please?

I recently acquired the same drive for my 8887 and use it via Firewire. Works like a champ and it's fast! I just plugged it in and followed the brief instructions, had no problems. I'm running XP. "Should" just be OS interaction.

Here's an interesting, but no longer useful as far as BIOS, link. Same for the 888E, which used to contain the BIOS. Better try your last resort, tech support.
