Well tonight I got to play Desert Combat in a tournament at the Computer Room. Adam graciously let me game on the demo model of the 5680 he has. Fully loaded, all the perks and pluses.
I played with a mis-matched team of two friends from SLAGG and some others from another team from TK1 (their buddies who played as a full team actually won the Tournament).
Gaming on the laptop went superb. I used an Microsoft Explorer v 3.0 at the beginning of the night but switched off to a Logitech Optical Mouse.
I ran the game at full graphic settings, at 1024x768 and experienced no frame lag at all during the tournament. There were three rounds of two twenty minute games. So two hours worth of gaming. No issues with locking up at all during the night.
The keyboard is just fine for gaming on, and the touchpad never proved to be a annoyance while gaming (like on my Inspiron 4000). My hands fit comfortably on the keyboard, and I'm a fairly big guy at 6'1" and 200+ lbs.
The screen was crystal clear, and very bright. I had no problems with overly dark areas on any of the maps we played (Battleaxe, El Alamein, Gazala). Plenty of good dogfights and helicopter occured, so truly stressing the video card on this laptop. I noticed no ghosting during the tournament.
Over all, this laptop is a nice gaming laptop. Not as big as the 8890, and a little more geared to the gamer thusly. It sits at the right height off the table, with no hot air blowing on your hands. The keyboard also did not ever get too hot, or the rest of the unit for that matter, where I placed my hands.
Adam will probably posting some pictures of the tournament soon hopefully, and one or two of me gaming on it during the tournament.
