Question about Ebay - Page 2

I don't see where people are coming of with "this is a scam". So far the only thing that is happened is someone with no other transactions has won the auction. Mackowski, you're in the best position here. I don't know what you advertised on your auction, but don't send the laptop until the money is cleared. What's the big deal? You should still be on your guard, though. Don't let the guy talk you into any strange arrangements like shipping before you've had a chance to get cleared cash in your hand. I think a US, verified PayPal payment is very safe. Also, any kind of US Money Order, especially a Postal Money order.

The only payment methods I accept on eBay these days are confirmed PayPal payments and USPS Postal Money Orders. It's just too easy to come up with fake money orders or cashier's checks. As him for postal money orders if PayPal isn't an option. Or, if he insists on a cashier's check, make sure it's drawn on a prominent bank so you can call and verify it's authenticity.

Hey Sonic, he got a couple questions from what seems to be obvious scammers. That would lead me to believe that the person who won the auction is not legit as well. But like you said, the buyer is in command. Just sucks that the hassle he has to go through to get his listing fees reimbursed and having to relist his item.

Laters.

Make sure if you request the paypal that he has a confirmed address. I made the mistake of not looking for this on a buy it now. The guy paid me through paypal and everything was completed. I sent it via fedex and found out later that day it was a fraudulent credit card. It went as far as making it to his city even though we called before it even left my state. He made arrangements to pick it up, but luckily he never showed and they sent it back to me. It may look like everything is cool in paypal, but it might not be. If he does pay just make sure he is confirmed, and even wait a day before shipment. Good luck!

Use www.escrow.com. They are a great company and you can be sure that you will get your money. Paypal is good but there are a lot of problems with them where if you get scammed even though you followed all the right procedures, they will say its your problem. I use paypal but am still very cautious. Cashier checks and money orders are ok, but you can do a couple of things to make sure they are good. You can call up the bank and ask them to verify to make sure it is not fraudulent. Make sure you use the word fraudulent. Dont use the phone number on the check but go online or use 411 to find out the banks real phone number. I have had the experience of selling a laptop and then getting a buyer that could be scamming. If you want to be completely safe -> use www.escrow.com and you will never regret it. Dont use another escrow service, especially one suggested by the buyer.

One of my friends just told me that Paypal for large amounts is unsafe also. Basically they pay you, you withdraw the funds. Two weeks from now they cancel the credit card, or deny the transaction and Paypal bills you for the money.

Is there any safe way to avoid scams?

Chris; If this guy tells you he will be sending this to a relative in Africa as gift, walkaway!. I had 2 guys with zero feedback bid 235.00 for a used nextel. That's when the bullshit started to flow, he sent me a forged Western Union bid pay. He even had the balls to send a Fedex prepaid box. Had I been home, I would have put a brick in it. Beware!

Paypal is NOT a good idea, they are NOT a guarentee that you won't get ripped off - don't believe it! Paypal is a total pain in the ass to deal with too, especially when it comes to fraud related activities.

Use a certified escrow site as I mentioned in my previous post, it is the ONLY way to insure you get your money for your product. I would never let anything I sold on Ebay for over $500 go without escrow, even if I have to eat the fees personally.

I have a question about EBAY.

What happened if the buyer is legit and honest but the seller is a fake? I am not saying that c_mackowski is a fake, but I am just wondering about the possibility of the seller being bogus.

I have buy stuffs on Ebay but I am always worry about paying the seller the money and they never send the product. What would happen then?

I completely agree, I got $1500 stolen after I sold my laptop on ebay. They sent the money with paypal, I sent the laptop, they reported their credit card stolen and ALL the money got pulled out of my paypal account. So now I was out my laptop/$1500. Paypal did NOTHING, infact they charged me fees because of it.

I believe if the seller has money in their PayPal account, you can get it back. But if they're quick and withdraw your money before you file a claim with PayPal, that money is gone.

PayPal is a very good service. When buying expensive Items...Paypal offers a money back reguardless option..cost a few dollars but its great insurance....If you ...as the buyer or the seller follow the guidelines...PayPal will back you up 100 % I had a buyer back out or cancel a credit card transaction after receiving an Item of $400.00..PayPal locked my account and his until they investigated it...Because I followed the guidelines..."priority mail...delivery confirmation...Insurance...ETC." I proved that it was shipped and they reinbursed me full amount and they took the loss....Just follow all the small print and all is well......

Ebay verified the buyer was a scam. He used the buy it now on several auctions and will not pay. Good.... I would rather know this before we dealt with any money issues. Thank you guys for posting, now I have some good info before selling again!
