I was looking it over and noticed that it uses the same fn ctrl setup that the sagers use, its a amd but actually runs pretty cool

No, sager doesn't even build their own laptops, clevo does.

It wouldn't suprise me if the new eMachines was built by clevo. . .

I once had to work on someones Emachines desktop and the funny thing was they had all the bios settings passworded so you couldnt reformat, then the back of the case where it comes apart had a lock on it lol, you know like the ones the utility company and phone company use to keep you out of their utility boxes. Pile of junk it was.

They're manufactured by Arima (www.arima.com.tw, I think).

One of my friends just bought one a few weeks ago. It's shockingly nice for the price... but I'll admit it felt a bit slower than I really think it should have... On the other hand, she's running with the factory-configured Windows XP Home... I personally would have anihilated it and replaced it with XP Pro sans preinstalled JunkWare ;-)

I've got an eMachines desktop here -- 1.8GHz Celeron, and cost me about $400 new.

Except for the fact that it's a PCI-only machine (no AGP to upgrade the P.O.S. onboard Intel graphics), it actually a pretty decent little box. My other half uses it for web surfing and office-type stuff, and it works great for that.

It ain't much of a gaming box, but it's really a good general-purpose PC. For the price, I doubt I could've done much better.

Couldn't you get a PCI graphics card? I have one sitting right next to me, an old Geforce2mx400, I know there are better out there, I just went to CompUSA, and they have some good ones that have PCI slots.

Yeah, I could... but I decided I'd rather just buy me a new Sager.

meh. I bought my little brother an emachines desktop like two christmases ago. It started as an amd 1600+, 40 gb hdd, integrated graphics and 128 ram. Over the past two years though, I've helped him upgrade it a bit. Right now, it's a 2400+, ti4200 128mb, 768 ram, and a 40gb and 80 gb hdd. Overall, it's really not a terrible machine, and it runs exceptionally well for the punishment he's put it through.
