cpu above threshold temperature

After leaving my laptop on for a fey days I start receving system mail stating that the CPU is above the threshold temperature, and that it is running in "modulated clock mode" (I could be wrong about that quote, but it is something to that effect). Obviously I am concerned about this. Is there a BIOS setting that I need to enable or is there some package that I need to install.

What is the temp of the proc when this starts happening. cat /proc/bus/acpi/therm something like that. If the temp isn't out of line you can disable the option in the kernel config. Have you cleaned the heatsink lately? It may also correspond with that. Here's a link to the archlinux mailing list that discusses this sort of. http://archlinux.org/pipermail/arch/...ne/001594.html

It never states a temperature, just a general statement about the threshold temperature. I will disassemble and clean this weekend and see how she does then. I suspect it will be very dirty as I have never cleaned it.
