Question for an Asus Z71v owner

Could someone who actually owns the Z71v answer me my question?

The bottom picture of the Z71v shows, that the battery pack contains 2 of the notebook feets, it stands on. I would want to remove the battery pack, when I´m near a place for power supply. Can someone remove the battery and tell me, how stable it stands on the table?

Are the Z71v fans silent, if not currently gaming? How loud?

Thanks

I don't think anyone of us received our Z71V yet. So can't really answer your question until next week when they are shipped at the earliest

My last battery only lasted a little over a year, so it´s important to me to use it without the battery pack. I fear without the battery inserted, the Z71v might wobble around, when working with it.

Please try it when it arrives : )
thx

Here is the review by a vendor who just got it with some benchmarks...

As for the battery I don't think it will wobble if you remove the battery, see the link for picture. You can see that next to the battery, there are 2 round stand to support the notebook when the battery is removed.

Removing the battery will not prolong the life of it. Not using it on battery will. These batteries are guranteed for a year. On the z71v when the battery is removed the laptop still has plastic feet on the bottom so its sturdy without wobble but slides around. By removing the battery you loose the traction. Removing the battery will have no effect on the life of it. Not sure where you heard this. It is a folk tale similar to the one that says your pc will last longer if you keep it on all the time. On the contrary.....
Silent when not gaming. The fans do not make any audible noise when in low load. Even in hi load the fans are low noise if compared to dtr's. Overall the notebook gets 8 out of 10 for fan noise. 10 would be completely silent.

Just removing the battery of course not.
I know the lithium-battery has a limited amount you can drain and charge it (I think ~500 times). E.g. Asus writes in the Z71v manual "... fully draining it and charging it once every day will last over a year but how long beyond that will depend on environment temperature, humidity..."

Most the time I´m near a place for power supply, and wouldn´t need a battery pack installed. But every time I start the notebook, I lose one load cycle for the battery. That´s why I would want to remove the battery, not for preserving it.

That the Z71v loses traction while the battery is removed is a bit sad, but no real reason to not buy it.

If you start up on AC power, even with the battery in, shouldn't the machine go straight to AC power and skip the battery altogether? I don't see why keeping it in would be so bad. If you're plugged in, it shouldn't use the battery at all.

That´s because you´ve photographed the wrong side of the battery! On the other side there are two feets, or not?!

(Have seen pictures with the two feets.)

Ok, now we are talking about the same thing. Question was actually if the notebook might lose traction with the plastic feets when the battery is not inserted while working.

Hello guys,

two months ago I bought a Z71V for resale. When it arrived I just kept the box at my storage and as I got a buyer for it now, I opened today to test it.

When I first turned it on, it showed me a msg on the screen, something like this:" No system disk found, please set up boot sequence or insert a valid bootdisk now and press any key." Then I inserted Windows XP cd and pressed a key, but the cd did not start.

So I turned off the unit and turned on again. The unit turned on, the HD light showed some activity, the fans started, but thr LCD was just black. I tryed several times, but the same happens, the LCD just won´t turn on. I tried with battery, without battery, with CD, without CD...pressed the shutdown button for 10 seconds, I prayed, everything, but the LCD does not turn on...

Does anybody has evern seen this happens before? Please e-mail me at nilsondias at yahoo dot com.

Function+F7 is the LCD on/off button. Try that.

Have you even tried going thru BIOS to change the startup order?

Nilsondias - Have you tried leaving it switched off & unplugged for a while & tried again. My Evesham version has been RMA'd for a similar thing - but if left for a while it'd boot up & die again after 5 mins or so. The LCD would go off but the fans would still be going. I don't know what the verdict from Evesham's engineers is yet, but I'll post once I know.
