XPS2 video card noise - Page 5

For buzzing that is coming from near the power button (not graphics card buzz). Try this solution: http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...spiron+buzzing

It has to do with some of the electrical components (coils) on the motherboard. Some people just get cheapo coils that vibrate and create noise under certain conditions.

As for the graphics card, its more or less the same issue. Under heavy load, the electrical components vibrate and give off a high pitched hum.

Do a test. Use NCH and lock your multi at its lowest and undervolt. Then run the same task putting some load on the cpu at full speed, you will hear a faint buzzing. My XPS M170 has this and there is really nothing you can do.

Thank you!

I too have noticed this in CSS. I thought I was hearing things (similar to those voices "KILL, KILL, KILL" I hear throughout the day ). But once I am out of the game it doenst express itself. I can be gunning away (In CSS, unrelated to those voices) and do an alt-tab out of the game and it ceases as soon as the desktop comes up. At least you all are hearing it too.

I just started noticing this same problem on my m-170 tonight and it is a really annoying noise, probably just gonna send in for a replacment and see what happens.

That made me laugh out loud. I hope everyone else enjoyed that as much as I did.

Ok, I got a replacment card sent to me and it is totally silent, during game and 3d apps it doesnt even make a faint buzz...my last one buzzed so loud i had to turn up the speakers and i could still hear the weird frequency. Just call up dell and ask for a new card if it is very loud like mine was...especially in BF2.
