Yup. mpeg2 and mpeg4 depending upon settings.
If you are doing serious video capture I would suggest you go via the 1394 firewire road. Using the S-Vid in + Line In combo causes a loss of sound sync. It gets more noticable the longer the capture. If you are just capturing from TV the problem does not occur because the sound is embedded in the TV signal and is then decoded directly by the TV card.

If you use firewire the DV camera or capture device encodes the video + audio signal at source and locks them together. They stay that way when transferred into the AV capture software and sound stays in sync.

sound synk issues 'eh... What about when you xport to, say to a VHS deck. In the past I've always daisy chained my camera to convert 1394 to RCA but dropouts are the bane of long exports.
By the way, I'm specking out a 9860 for video editing w/ premier, AE and combustion.

Export is fine afaik. Not done a lot of those as most of my imports end up on DVD.
How old is the camera? You might need a newer model that can keep up.

aussie, you say you're having sync problems with long captures? what software are you using to capture with?

Tried a couple of programs. Initally used the Avermedia software that comes with the system. There was a second program that escapes me right now and saw the same effect. Ultimately switched to Premier Pro and 1394 firewire.
