3 years standard warranty = worthy?

As per title ...

Is it worthy to upgrade the warranty from 1 year to 3 years standard warranty?
I might use this lappy for more than a year... so any opinions? suggestions? comments?

I upgraded my 8600 at purchase to the 3 yr extended,I have had my 8600 for 18 Months and have not had a single issue to date No errors, Dead Pixels or hardware problems whatsoever, but knowing that I have 18 Months off warranty left is really nice because you never know what can happen down the road,and the extra few pennies a day is well worth it!!!!

I know you don't plan to sell it but things change and 18 months from now and you need a new laptop that extended warranty makes your old one much more attractive for resale.

It'll be worth more and it'll sell faster. After I bought my 1000, Dell sent me an "offer" to extend another two years for 80 bucks, I snapped it up! I'm hoping I'll get a similar deal on my new 700m, if not, I'll buy it anyway.

I would highyl reccomend it. Mine is comeing up to the end of its 1 year warrenty and I have sent it back several times. I am currently looking to get it extended.

Pretty much, If you lose an LCD or a mother board 2 years from now, it get's fixed, even a CD or whatever.

It couldn't hurt to upgrade. I thinks someone said they upgraded their warranty to 3 yr for about $80, so if something were to 'accidentally' break it would be covered.

Paying so little, relativly, to cover your tail on something as expensive as a laptop just makes sense to me. Unless that laptop is just entry level, and you could buy a new laptop for the same price as the warranty.

worth is subjective...and really you are the only one who can make that decision for you. you can always get extended warranty if you are still within your current warranty. with that said, you pay the highest for the first two years and then it falls off in price for the 3rd and/or 4th year...but if you think you are going to get two years and then add the 3rd or 4th year to get the same rate, you are mistaken as you will pay the higher add 1 year or 2 year to your existing warranty. not as confusing as i've made it, simply put, it is cheaper to extend during your first year or at the time of your purchase to 3 years or 4 years rather than just getting 2 year warranty.

completely care is a flat fee addition to your existing warranty so it doesn't cost more to get it with 3 or 4 year standard warranty versus getting it with 1 year warranty...so really, it is more cost effective to get a longer term warranty with complete care.

i also agree that if you decide to sell it within the warranty period, it does make it more attractive to buy from you if you have warranty left (of course, a smart consumer will ensure you haven't modded the thing to void the warranty).

Well, my aftermarket warranty extension"offer" came today. I can get three year at home service for 194US, the point of sale price is 269US at Dell so I save 75 bucks. I'd rather had mail in for about a hun but I guess it's not a bad deal.

Is this named to you or can we take advantage of this as well ?

I think I might be interested in taking this one on if and when they send it to me. How long after you bought the laptop did you get it.. in mailbox or email ?

dell has various promotions on its warranty as well...i bought my lappie from someone on ebay and i decided to upgrade the 1 year basic warranty with 4 year with complete care. at that time, they were having a $90 rebate.

I got the computer on the 25th of March, the offer arrived by US mail today.

In the past year, I've broken my 15" display on my 2.5 year old Toshiba and killed the combo drive. The display cost me CNY 1,700 to replace and the combo drive will cost me CNY 1,300 if I were to replace it with a combo. I've decided to buy a much cheaper (CNY 450) external USB DVD-ROM drive and fit it internally myself.

I just ordered an Inspiron 700m and the its coming with 2yr Complete Cover. I added CNY 860 for 3rd year CC. I figured if my luck over the next three years is as bad with the Dell as with my Toshiba in the past, it's worth the money! I imagine the Dell will see more danger too as it is only 1.8kg as opposed to my 3.2kg Toshi which is too heavy to lug around too often.

(CNY 8.27 = USD 1.00)

I got the exact same offer in the mail exactly one week after my laptop (9300) was delivered. 75 dollar rebate. I decided after much hemming and hawing to get the warranty extended to 3 years. I do not worry so much about parts of the computer failing as I do about accidental damage, because I travel extensively. So I got the complete care too. I kinda wish you could get the accidental damage warranty without the regular warranty LOL!

So, I'm not sure if I have this down, but I wanted to make certain. If I purchase a laptop with no extended warranty (besides the given 1 year), Dell will still likely send me an offer to extend my 1 year warranty at a discount to what I would have bought during the initial laptop purchase?

I'm only asking because I have never purchased from Dell before, and I am trying to save as much as I can.

For me, that is how it worked out. At the time of purchase, the 3 year warranty would have added 269 dollars to the price. I did not purchase it. A week after receiving the computer, they sent in the mail the offer, which was to extend the warranty to 3 years for 269 minus a 75 dollar rebate. I bought my computer using a 800 dollar off coupon. I see that some people are using 35 percent off coupons. If so, then it would have been cheaper to purchase the warranty at the initial purchase, (assuming the coupon applies to the warranty too), as 35 percent off 269 would have been about 175 dollars.

Okay, I might take that route. I'm not too worried about coupons, as I live in Canada anyway.
