Forums that are IBM Thinkpad-specific??

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say I am impressed by the knowledge of the people on these boards and I will spend many hours reading up on posts to learn more and more about laptops.

I am in the market for a laptop and the IBM Thinkpad T40 is amongst the products I am considering. I noticed that not many people have discussed it here.

Are there forums such as this one in which people discuss the Thinkpads ???? I've browsed IBM's forums but they suck.

Please advise!

François

Ive got a thinkpad, on it right now. I couldnt find any forums other than the ibm forum, which, as you said, sucks. Just go ahead and get the t40, you wont regret it ;-)

Personally I feel IBM's are over priced and under featured. I think they feel they can mark up because they have such a reputation and a professional image.

Also, I dont care for the all black with little bright colored buttons scheme they have going.

I have an IBM Thinkpad 600x and I love it! This is a great machine.

Perhaps it was overpriced for its day but it is the most solid laptop I have ever used, both in stability of running programs, and the case.

I've heard though that the quality of IBM's systems has gone downhill as of the past few years.

I also think the IBM Thinkpads are over priced but the quality of the notebook makes up for it. I bought a Thinkpad T40 last week for an incredible price. This is what I got.
T40 2373-92u
80gb hd
1.5gb DDR
14.1 SXGA
dvd/cdrw
1.6ghz processor.

They can mark them up because they are built extremely well and they have extremely good tech support unlike the cheap ones like compaq/hp.

And on the thread note, I don't think there are many cause most consumers can't afford/don't buy thinkpads, mainly for business and I doubt many business users discuss their computers online.

yah that's a nice machine, the only front it is lacking on is gaming.. i wish ibm offered an intemediary card liek the 9600 64 meg version..

i really want a t41p but i don't know that i can bring myself to spend $3400 for one and not even get a dvd burner..

incidentally, why is the t series back on top of the ibm notebook page.. it says all new.. did they revamp something i am missing or???
