Klipsch ProMedia ultra 5.1 or Logitech Z-5500 5.1 Digital Speaker System

The Klipsch are more expensive, but are they better?

Which would you recommend?

Logitech

Klipsch

Perhaps something better?

I don't know about the Logitech, but my dad just bought the 2.1 variety of the Klipsch promedia.

Incredibly nice, I would recommend them highly. Some of the most amazing sounds I have ever heard from computer speakers; remarkable clarity. MaximumPC gave them a 9 or a 10 in the last couple of months, and lists the 5.1's as "gear of the year". I have always trusted their judgments for hardware, for the most part.

I am sure they are both great speakers- Good luck.

get the klipsh.

I love mine. Plus you can use the massive sub for a foot stool. It does have dual 8inch drivers...

Never owned any, but went to best buy and did a sound test. The Klipsch sounded QUITE nice but the price will get ya.

I owned the Klipsche 2.1 Promedia and was horribly dissappointed at the lack of a crisp high end. I have never heard the 5.1 ProMedia Ultra setup, but I currently own the Z5500 from Logitech and they are to die for.

I use two Altec Lansing sets... a 2.1 and a 4.1 (guess that makes it a 6.2?) - good enough for me I suppose, though I'd kill for either the Klipsche or the Logitech set

Both are equally amazing speakers, but the Logitech's are the clear winner because of the price. They also happen to look much nicer, imho.

Dude! I use the sub as a footstool under the desk LOL!! I placed a nice plush cushion on it and wallah! unbelievable ergonomics

And the dual driver kicks logitech butt sky high! Get the Klipsch. The quality is very good indeed...Sound quality that is. And no gimmicks - you will need an external decoder and a 5.1 sound card to use these to their max extent.

I have the Audigy 2 NX and the Creative DDTS100

if u can afford a Klipsch, go for it.

This is how I generalize speaker manufacturers.

Kilpsch > Altec > Logitech

I'm a reader of Maximum PC, and they said the Logitech pwned the kilpsch in 5.1 area. Kilpsch did take 'em on the 2.1 however

That table consists of products they've reviewed.

I don't think one speaker set is absolutely better than the other. However, one might be better than the other for you. All I can tell you is just follow your heart.

... or your ears

sorry... couldn't resist

Does Logitech make their own speakers? They are not a speaker company, so I assume they contract an OEM in Asia to manufacture their speakers for them? Whereas Klipsch is a speaker maker at heart...
Yes, I think we all agree that the "heart" plays a major role in speaker selection.

The editors and journos allow themselves to be deluded by appearance of the package, cosmetics, gimmicks in the controls etc.

Anything that doesnt use speaker posts for connecting speakers is a friggin joke. Upgrade the cables on your Klipsch Promedia and prepare to be blown away.

I don't have any personal experience with either of these speaker systems, so I can't speak for either of them. I disagree with your statement that "they allow themselved to be deluded by appearance of the package, cosmetics, gimmicks", but thats your opinion. We all have one

I have seen CNet, PC Gaming World, Gamespot journalists at work...some of them are my friends and clients. When I say something related to audio products I dont speak without experience.

For example - I dont know who you are or what you are like in person. But I love your avatar and I would do you in an instant if you looked anything like that AND you were certifiably female

LOL

Hey hey hey! Don't you get caught up in appearance of the package or cosmetics now!

I, too, am currently under this dilemma, which set to buy.

I play games, but mostly I listed to High quality MP3's (as good as it can get in that medium, I guess) of classical music.

Anyone know which would be better, the Klipsch or the Logitech?

Thanks all,

Rakewell

Both are awesome. I have the Logitech Z-680's (previous generation of Z-5500) and I am very content with them, but I've tested out Klipsch and they sound good too, but I'd go w/ Logitech since it costs less.
