Alien Armour Case

Hey guys!

The AlienArmour hard case for the 7700 is finally available here in the UK and i wanted some thoughts from owners as to what its like? It'll mainly be used to store it in the house (keep it clear from dust and damage as theres a lot of building work going on right now) and to make a few trips in an out of the office and to clients.

How much room does the case actually have? Can it fit the adaptor in nicely and have room to spare? Ideally i'd like to be able to take my mouse, mouse mat, a magazine and maybe my zen jukebox. oh and my laptop too ;o)

Let me know ASAP guys cause i want to order today if possible!

I own that case personally with a 7700 I just received... it fits my laptop, and thats it. I cant fit an adapter or anything else in the case once I put the laptop in it. Personally I'm fine with that, I put the adapter, any CDs, mouse, etc in the bag/case/thing that the 7700 comes with and just keep the laptop in the alienarmor. The laptop is all I really care about protecting and the case looks great, I also find I have enough junk (external hard drive etc) that even if the adapter and mouse fit in the case I'd still need to bring the extra carry bag so it works out.

That does suck, you'd look far more pimpin just showing up at a lan party or a clients office with just a sleek black hard case. mmmmmmm.

That said i will probably still buy one! Chances are i'll be taking a small bag wherever i go anyway so i guess it works out! Can you not fit stuff inside the top section of the hard shell? I've seen the unbranded version of the alienarmour and not only can it fit a chunky 17" laptop but it also has room in the top section for a small MP3 player, some documents and maybe some other small items.

I assume this is the one your speaking of...I bought this in black also...it does not hold as much as the backpack but if you read the description, it is not ment to..it does hold some extras and is very well padded but if your a student who carries his dorm room around in a backpack, this is not for you.

Note the "view mobile transport demo"

it would be used more for work and taking into the studio with me. i was hoping it would hold atleast my laptop, a magazine and my mp3 player. I will be taking a bag everywhere with me but it would be nicer to have things like an MP3 player handy because the AW will be glued to my side constantly and a backpack will just be stowed away!

cheers guys!

Aside from a few CDs and some other small stuff it wont fit anything else. Basically any OTHER 17 inch laptop would do well here but the 7700 and models using that case are much thicker then most laptops, if I try to put anything close to the size of the AC adapter in the top storage areas it will not close, or at least the amount of resistance is enough for me to fear crushing the laptop. You can fit papers and crap like that in there but no way your fitting an explorer trackball like I use and/or the AC adapter. Jewel cases would probably do fine.

Hmmm, I would have thought there would be room for a magazine and mp3 player from AW's description:

"AlienArmor 17" Silver Aluminum Notebook Case
The Silver AlienArmor Aluminum Notebook Case features a rigid aluminum outer shell in a brushed aluminum finish with an engraved Alienware logo that is certain to turn heads wherever you go. It offers a superior level of protection for your valuable system with easily adjustable inserts and plenty of space for your PDA, cellular phone, files and documents."

Haha! Yeah i had noticed the description. The only problem is that this description is from the manufacturer and not AW themselves! The AlienArmour is just a case with the AW logo on the side, and as the 7700 is pretty huge im guessing fitting anything else in the case would be a tight squeeze.

Anyway, im orderin tonight so will let you all know soon as!

AW actually get their cases from a company in Canada called Matias
Here's the link
http://matias.ca/products/index.php
They just put the AW logo on it.
Matias does have an armour case that would fit the 7700. It's just that it's not offered on the AW site

As far as i'm aware Matias also get their hard case from another company, probably in asia somewhere! I've seen the exact same case with a million different names, would be interesting to find where exactly it comes from!

i have seen the case. i dont think that it would hold much other than a 7700...it is really despgned for a 15.4inch lappy and its accessories, not the massive bulk of a 7700.....

Kind of funny, the Matias webpage shows them using 2 pads on all 4 sides of the laptop for a 17 inch. Alienware fit the laptop into the alienarmor that I ordered when they shipped it and the configuration they used was 1 pad on all 4 sides. It fits perfectly, like a glove... 2 pads on all sides would be totaly impossible and even with all pads removed you cant slip in the AC adapter. MP3 player and PDA? yeah maybe, if you're not using some huge hard drive MP3 player. My opinion: if any of the other stuff you want in there is more then about half an inch thick it isn't going to work.

Still an awesome looking case though, I got the black 1 personally.. now if I could just get the damn finger prints to stay off... Doesn't bother me though since I prefer using a trackball mouse and there aren't any cases I've found in existance that will fit that with a laptop... like I said in my previous post, I'd recommend just taking an extra bag with the armor.
