Just been on 3dmark03 and looked into system details.

It has external clock running at 133.0mhz, is this okay?
That should be okay. External clock @ 133.0 Mhz..internal runs 4 pipe, thus equal to 533Mhz internal bus.

Hmm your video might be underclocked for battery purposes...

Try using the omegadrivers to see.

nice review

this is the most promising notebook i've seen

Hey Olli, was your last avatar some army guy with coffee? I really liked that one... you should switch back !
Yeah can you update the drivers and see what score you get with 3dmark03? The Travelmate 8100 (it's direct rival) can easily get 6000 on it without overclocking with the catalyst 5.3 drivers. I personally am seeing around the 6500 range after overclocking the X700.

I have to say though, those stock numbers are a bit dissapointing.

What are the things that you most dislike about the Z71V, and are you glad you bought it?

That is pretty low compared to the Acer. Hmm I wonder if it was seriously underclocked for battery purposed.

I guess I'll play with it when i get it later this week.

Good news! The 3.8 hours reported by Geared2Play might be a fluke. You've made me a happy camper!
Doubt it was a fluke. We will run another test on continious 3dmark. Not sure how you got 4.5 hours out of it with all the hi end utils running. 3.8 hours we got was just basic stuff some movie playback mostly browsing. ALS was set to low and cpu was half way. Will give it a few more tests. 4.5 hours is more then the m6n. Almost next to imposible. Olli you sure the time is right? I am guessing that is without the optical battery? What were the tesed model specs? It really doesnt matter the specs we should both get the same ballpark figure if environmental was the same. Can you confirm that you got in excess of 4.5 hours? If so we would have to retest that.
On the subject of omega drivers. What exactly makes them different from the base drivers? Is the clock speed in these drivers increased?
**** me, 13000 + on 3dmark01 on STOCK drivers? That's insane for a notebook. Awesome stuff.

Nice scores but the Acer 8104 is getting 1600+

I forgot what my last avatar was now??

About the Z71V 3d mark scores the Acer 8104 is getting 1600.
But really I would like one of you guys to get your darn Z71V in and give it a go as this is my first laptop and have little knowledge about playing around with it. You lot seem to have more understanding.
I'm running a DVD on the lappy at the mo (Master and Commander. 132 mins) will see how well it does in battery.
I will agree though with this laptop there is not much heat to speak of, other than slight warmth at the bottom. Such as from reading about the Acer 8100's its touch pad gets real warm, the Z71V is very cool. So it should be able to be pushed a bit further in over clocking.

The most disliking thing about the laptop is the 3dmark scores I'm getting, but Doom3 is very fast though. But I think I'm doing something wrong or the drivers are old so don't worry yet.
As for being the battery test a fluke I did not do a constructive test on the battery, it was a more random test of dvd to photo viewing but will test now watching a DVD and see how it goes.

I'm considering the 2GHz one over the 1.86GHz. Do you notice any fans / heating when idle / browsing / listening to music?

Thanks.

I pushed my clockspeed and I am now getting 6850 on 3dmark03. A fellow notebookforum goer is getting 7200!!! I'm trying to get to his score but so far I have only gotten up to 7200. He doesnt even have the 8104 either, like me he has the 8103. He also is supposedly saying that it is stable.

Okay just ran Master and Commander dvd. After 132 mins dvd, and about 15 mins setting it up, battery is on 51% remaining (1 hour 30mins). Brightness set at 76%
post #36 of 135
that battery life is awesome but I have a bigger question....
I ordered my z71v (xmeld.com), should have it on Friday I hope.

When i get it I really want to set the graphics up right. So being that the clock speeds are reduced when we get it, can we get a software tool that changes speeds to what they were made to be (350/700?)? If so is this overclocking because you are keeping it at nvidias clock speeds that they released for the card? Thats what I want to do atleast, I have not overclocked a video card before, but I have cpus. What drivers should we also use when doing this? recommendtations of any software for what I want to do would be appreciated. Thanks

power settings and benchmarks

Olli, try going into powermizer and set it to performance before running the benchmarks. That should make a difference. I should be getting mine tomorrow. Can't wait.

Okay tried different options on powermizer. Used 3dmark03.
game mode= 4433
High performance= 4410
Super performance= 4438
I think geared2play's thread listed the clock speeds as 250/500. Which is quite low for the 6600 (nvidia min spec i think was 300/600). So I'm sure with a bit of playing around that can change a lot, who knows how high but maybe somebody can try it.

For sure, my Z7 is really too cool and hardly gets warm due to the low gpu clock speed. I'll update the drivers soon and look for a program to get the clock speed up.
