please help with my wireless

Thread Starter
I just recieved a dell inspiron 6000 a couple of days ago, it came with a wireless card already installed, and if i go to a local coffee shop or hotel it detects the wireless capability and i connect to it. The only problem is when i click on internet explorer or even try using msn explorer, it tries to load the page but cant and it says that it cant display the page, if i try to use a program that uses the internet such as limewire it cant connect either, yet all this time its telling me im connected and even tells me what at speed. I just cant figure whats keeping from viewing web pages and such.

I could babble about making sure your wireless connection has TCP/IP enabled (Control Panel--Network Connections), but am drinking a beer at the moment and hope some more sober person will help you out.

after associating with the AP make sure you have an ip address too, the ip does not always get aquired right away, it may be a couple mins after you associate

it could be you have wierd proxy settings or something in your IE settings, so make sure in there its set to "automatically detect settings" and see if it works

If you've only tried it at hotels and coffee shops it could be that they charge for use of their wireless and you need a network key or something such to connect.
