My AW story ~

Here's my most recent story /w AW:

AW has had my old 5620D Lappy since 2/2/05, took them 10 days to look at it.. guess they have alot of work down there..
Get a call on 2/16, They needed me to give them the O.K to order a new case for me.. why? because the new one wouldn't be blue, it would be the standard grey..

So they went to order a new case for me.... and thats the last i herd from them....

Side Story::

Ok so this new case they ordered for me, it's the standard gray one, no choice in the matter

So i suck it up, and go on the boards to try to get some info outa aw about the coloring of the cases, with the following post:

Quote:
Hi, my laptop is in for service right now, it has been diaged : The motherboard needs replacing and the case needs replacing... But since it's one of the older models, all i am offered is the standard grey color case. And there is no other options for color choice, at least that’s the rap customer service told me, obviously not offering any type of compensation.

lovely.

[Insert obvious disappointment and frustration]

Ok so this begs the following questions to be asked:
[note]
Now I’ve seen you guys dodge these questions in the past; Now in this case, since trying to keep it a secrete would absolutely do no good -> the company doesn't manufacture them anymore; and doing so would most likely alienate a loyal customer; Please avoid the almost-instinctual run-around. [no offence intended]
[/note]

* Who did you use to get the cases colored?
* Do you know the type of paint (brand/model) used to paint the cases?
* Are you aware of any third party companies that would offer to paint it for me?
->(please: no companies like www.xoxide.com )
* Any other options you can offer/hint at/lite a bush next to/dieities i can sacrifice small animals to?

I ask for after my warranty period comes up, I’d like to get my laptop restored to what I spent that extra cash to have a while ago. Please don’t hesitate on divulging the information because of any technical-skills consideration: I’m a GeekSquad™ Agent, A+ cert, working on several other certs along with a BS in IST. I’ve not put up a fuss about this having to happen, even though I would love to: but it seems like it would be a futile gesture even if I did.

Tkx in advance.

The responce i got back, totaly caught me off guard, totaly.

We cannot provide you with this information, it's not for disclosure. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us.

Thank you.
I am still in shock that i got that response, exp from warner, perhaps i came off a bit too pushy, a-holish perhaps? I dunno, I still cant figure out the motivation behind that reply. However it is a moot point now, as you will soon see :
( i'v dealt /w warner alot in the past, for my self, and my friends who own AW's as they typically come to me first /w problems)

-end side story-

So i went onto the live-chat 2 weeks after they last contacted me, you know, to get an update...

Still waiting for case... ok, i can see it could take a while.. no eta tho..

Tried live chat the next week.. no eta, try calling..
Called the following day.. no eta yet...

Called the next week, the next week, the next week...
(ouch my cell minutes)

FINNALY! Last Tuesday i get some one who sends an e-mail for me to find out why it was taking so long, sat on hold, several times, but i REALLY wanted to know how much longer it would take....
Only to find out that have to wait till fri for them to e-mail me about it...

Tho getting e-mailed about it caught me off guard.. haven't had that one b4.
:: Insert restored faith in AW ::

(march 30th) Get a fed-ex tracking number on wends night!

Friday afternoon - Get an e-mail saying that because of the delays at the depot, my laptop has been upgraded to the 766 model, and it's blue! (15.4'')

But hey, what do i do with my spare battery and floppy drive i have here, and what of the secondary battery i shipped down with it?
Couldn't call them over the weekend, so i plan to just wait it out till Tuesday, and then give them a ring after i get the lappy ~ Hopefully i wont be reduced to trying to sell them off to buy another primary batt for this lappy.

Ug, so many questions about this laptop.. no clue where to start... god i hope it has a uxga screen, thats the one thing i pride over everything else..

I'l post up on tues night about what i think of the lappy, but i must say, outside of the cold-shoulder from warner, every interaction with a rep from aw has been a pleasant experience

So um, any cool proggies i should know about for this series? Stuff controling the lights n what not~

So to summarize your post:
1. You sent in your Laptop for repair.
2. It needed the case and motherboard replaced.
3. They were unable to offer you the same color case.
4. Instead, Alienware built you a new laptop and sent it to you?

Is that the correct summary? If so, Grats! That is great service. And thank you for sharing with us.

Cool

I'd be so happy with AW that I'd buy an extra battery, AC adapter, upgrade the memory, vid card and what every else needed to be upgraded at the time.

Da.n the 5620 was ugly.

Oh the memory, proc, hd, ram, and vid card are all on my list of things to get from them allready :-P

~~ but i allready have 2 ac adapters, and i'v seen that this model has a better battery life so i'm not too concerned with it, just don't like having parts that i cant use laying around ~ ~

Well just tried to get the warranty extended (it's up in feb of 2006)... looks like they had a typo in the e-mail / bad wording and i'm not entitled to purchase an extention of it

(and here i was gladly ready to slap down 350 more if i could)..
Guess i'l keep that money then...

Anyone think i should i make a point out of the fact that from all of the times i'v sent it into service / had to get things replaced so i could use it that i'v practicly been with out a laptop for just under 5 months? (i'm not inclined too, since i doubt the latch on this model is NEARLY as bad as the old model's)

to give some perspective on this whole thing

Just so everyone knows where i am coming from, and to provide proper perspective, here is a quick timeline of my alienware history:

08/12/2002 : First purchased Laptop, 2yr warranty.

01/28/2003 : Laptop was stolen when i asked some one to watch it for 10
minutes, and they looked away for a minute, insurance company is pissed at me.

02/04/2003 : Purchased another Alienware 51m, m9000 series, 64meg

03/03/2003 : Laptop arrives, with out my 2 secondary batteries
i ordered with it (and they now have the 128 meg version out :-/)

03/05/2003 : Laptop has not left my hands for 48 hours, however i notice
that the DJ LCD screen on the front has a hairline crack in it, but is
working... AW wants me to send it in.. i cant deal with out it till the end
of the summer because of classes, so i wait it out.

08/15/2003 : Finally send laptop in, at some point during the summer the
notorious latch broke on me, get DJ and Latch fixed.

09/XX/2003 : Get laptop back, with in 1 week latch breaks again. Great.
Notice hairline crack along the top-right screw going down the bottom 1/2 of laptop.

11/11/2003 : Laptop no longer turns on. Turns out that hairline crack,
was linked to an over-turned screw that caused the case to crack, causing the whole
structure of the case to become in jeopardy, causing the heat sink to not align, ultimately
causing mobo to fry. It's the little things that get ya ~

03/17/2004 : Cable on power inverter near the block has shorted. Need new
power inverter. Notice top right hinge just doesn't 'feel' right.

06/23/2004 : Top of my W key has a crack going down it, and the A S D Q E
keys have been buggy for a while (<3 FPS games). New KB sent to me.

01/28/2005 : Laptop does not even post. 2h+ previously on phone /w aw tech.
Says mobo has fried. Notice that the screw on the bottom right LCD (right above
previous crack) is now not moving with the lid.
This is where i realized they only replaced the
bottom half of the case last time, didn't touch the top 1/2
