Comparative to the newest Sagers what is your
pros/cons of this new HP 17" Widescreen?
http://www.shopping.hp.com/cgi-bin/h...owse_link=true

I know the sagers have a 800mhz bus, how much of a difference will one actually see using this 533MHz FSB ?

Thanks.

if the 17" is definitely the machine you want, i'd hang in there for a month or two until the updated 800fsb is rolled out in the sager 17"

I just called HP, they said the 3.2mhz does have an 800fsb!

The only hangup with it that I have is that it is a wxga+ which has a max resolution of 1440x900.

Is that bad?

whats the difference between a wxga and a wxga+.

This unit also has 4 usb not just 3 like the sager 4670/80.

I doubt the difference between the 533 FSB and the 800 FSB in terms of raw speed is noticiable. You're liable to see a larger difference in speed between the use of 266 mghtz ram vs. 400 mghtz ram, and in the GPU between Nvidia 5600 vs. Ati M10-P.

Concerning the 80 Gb Hdd, make sure that it run at least at 5400 rpm.

My impressions -

I'm not sure if the person on the phone or the website is lying to you, but the site clearly states the 3.06 GHz with the 533 bus as the processor in the system (in the quick specs and in the detailed specs).

The hard drive is only a 4200 (not good), so you'd probably want to upgrade that.

The RAM is 333 instead of the 400 in the Sagers, and it's not dual-channel either.

The video card is quite inferior - 64 MB Geforce FX 5600 Go vs. 128 MB M10 Pro.

No Gigabit Ethernet

DVD-burner included - nice

Integrated 4-in-1 card reader - ok, but no CF slot

Wireless?

Overall, it looks like a decent machine, and I don't think the resolution would be a big problem. The price is pretty nice, but the performance will lag behind the 5680/8890 (and future 17" model) by a good clip.
