2 x 1 GB memory for 9300? Best Price?

I am considering getting the 9300 from Dell heavily configured close to 3000 with 35% off comes to 2200 something.

This is with 2GB memory.

When I reconfigure it shows in the memory section..

Memory
Help Me Choose

256MB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 1 Dimm [subtract $1,000]
512MB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm [subtract $950]
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm [subtract $750] Dell Recommended
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm

Its approximately 1000 and if I give it 35% off.. say 650... Do you think Im better of buying the 2GB outside after getting and getting rid of the 256 or 512 sticks ?

Whats the best way ?

PS: Couldnt fine 1G sticks on Crucial Memory website.

Definitely worth buying outside, Newegg has Transcend 1gb sticks for $175 each.

So, $175 x 2 = $350. That's a $300 difference...

Bottom Line with

2G RAM (1 G Sticks) - Price = $3,461.00 - $1,211.35 (35%) = $2,249.65

1G RAM (512 M Sticks) - Price = $2,711.00 - - $948.85 (35%) = $1,762.15

Should I buy the 2 G outside and sell off the 512s ? or Should I buy straight the 2G ?

or should I go for even lower memory configuration and sell that off..

whats the best memory config to take advantage of ?

Are transcend good? I read in one FAQ that Crucial, Samsung or Kingmax are more better / dependable brands... ?

BTW - How did u search for the 1G stick deals?

Kindly advise ?

why don't you get the lowest ram possible, 256MB, and then order new ram from another online vendor, as noblesin suggested. You would save money

I think I'll do that now. Any other deals for the 1G stick for the 9300?
Just order the base 256mb and then get 2 1gb sticks outside.. You'll end up saving $500+ ....

The transcend is the lowest priced one I could find.. others have bought it here.. they said it works fine.

Newegg is down right now or I would check for you..

I think you can get the Kingston for around $200 per stick....so it still save you a load of money.

Also I dont u think I am saving on the taxes applied to the total price ? Since I dont see any taxes applied to the memory being bought at these stores.

Where can I find the Kingston 1G ones for 200 a piece ?

Also newegg.com seems to have died for me.. ?

Also.. what would be good places to start searching for memory ...

The best I can find are the following: Would you recommend any of the following ?

Can I order the laptop with 2G and then downgrade to 256MB and return to dell ? get a price credit / match ?

Or basically do a sell back of the RAM to dell ? (ive heard people on fatwallet do that on some PCs / deals).

Also.. any other items that you think might be worth downgrading and buying from outside for the 9300 ?

Can this chipset/processor utilize 2GB of RAM? I know it will accept it and run it but will any apps ever challenge even 1GB?

Or you could buy 2 of these Mushkin 1GB DDR2 SODIMM PC2-4200 for $465 free shipping. I ordered 2 of those on friday and the fed-ex guy delivered today, talk about fast shipping.

P.S. make sure you put down the code :SOSALE for 10% off

Why would you want to do that?...

I can't think of anything else that'd be worth getting from outside.. but, ram definitely.. because they charge you up the a$$ for 1gb+..

Go to resellerratings.com to check out the reputation of the vendor before ordering from any of them... that's why i referred you to newegg, they're very reliable.

if you want to compare prices, just search for "pc2-4200 notebook 1gb" on froogle or any other price matching engines... that transcend on newegg is one of the lowest.. it usually comes in stock couple of times a week...

question is will DELL take it back ? Can I do that ?

WHY? Cause some people made some money off of Dell this way (fatwallet.com). So is it possible ?

Also that way while I wait for the Memory sticks I have 2GB memory to play with.. and in the end no 256M to get rid of...

I resorted to froogling.. and found a small site with it at 140+ a piece..

Well, let me rephrase the question. Can this processor/chipset utilize even 1GB of RAM running the OS that it came with?

Transcend runs great.

I bought the minimum...256Mb. Added a 1Gb Transcend from NewEgg. Now running 1.2Gb and all is well. HalfLife2 flies.

I bought 1 GB with my purchase and I'll upgrade if I need it. I certainly hope I don't need 2 GBs anytime soon!

Bought the same config as you. Praying for a good screen!
