ZD8000 or Dell 9300?

I also posted this in the Dell forums but thought I should also post here for some balance!

I purchased an HP ZD8000 about a month ago. It's a nice machine, but battery life is horrible. It's also heavy. The specs are:

Specs are as follows:

Intel Pentium 4 processor 550 with HT Technology 3.4GHz (800MHz)
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 400Mhz memory
60GB 7200rpm (Purchased seperately)
OPTICAL DRIVE - 8x DVD+⁄-RW
17.0" WSXGA+ WVA BrightView RESOLUTION - 1680 x 1050
ATI Mobility Radeon X600 with PCI Express graphics with 256MB video memory
TV-OUT PORT - S-Video
LAN - 802.11b⁄g; Integrated 10⁄100 LAN
SPEAKERS - Harmon Kardon speakers
CARD READER - 6-in-1 integrated Digital media reader slot
USB PORT - 4 x USB 2.0
PARALLEL PORT - Not specified by Manufacturer
SERIAL PORT - Not specified by Manufacturer
PC CARD SLOT - ExpressCard⁄54 PC Card slot
IEEE1394 PORT - Yes
BLUE TOOTH - Yes

I have someone that possibly wants to buy it for similar to what I paid for it. I am thinking about going ahead with getting a 9300 with the following specs:

Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor at 770 - 2.13 GHz, 2MB Cache, 533 MHz FSB
Memory 1024MB (2 X 512MB) 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM
60GB Ultra ATA 7200RPM Performance Hard Drive
8X DVD+/-RW Combination Drive
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915 Dual Band 802.11a/b/g 54Mbps MiniPCI Wireless Card
Video Card 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) Go 6800
Primary Battery 9-Cell 80Whr Lithium Ion Primary Battery
Spare Adaptor 90W Primary AC Adapter (110V/220V)
17" UltraSharp(TM) Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife(TM): 1920x1200
Bluetooth Module Dell(TM) Wireless 350 Bluetooth Module

I am a web developer and run apps like Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator etc.

Am I embarking on a pointless exercise or would changing to the 9300 be beneficial to me?

Thoughts appreciated.

After reviewing all the laptops out, I also went with the i9300. It should be here in a couple days. But both of those laptops you list are very nice. The i9300 is gonna give you a bit more power CPU and GPU wise.

you will most definately have better performance with the i9300, however, i'm not sure if battery life will improve too much, since both machines have some major power chuggers (GPU, 7200HD, etc), but the P-M should hold up a bit better, so if you arn't losing (much) money in the deal, i'd say go ahead with it. Although if you're like me, it takes a good 4-6 hours to install all my software on a new machine and get it just how i like it, so that may be taken into consideration as well.

Do these programs utilize hyper threading technology??? If yes, then the Pentium 4 has got an advantage over the Pentium M's

Not sure about that.

Let me just give you an advance warning, some people get bad screens with the 9300. Light Leakage and bad grainy (sparkle) effects.

I think only photoshop uses hyper threading....dreamweaver and flash do not. Not sure about illustrator. Actually, i'm not sure about any of them, but I think i'm right about the first 3, and I just have no clue about illustrator

The Pentium M 770 2.13 would still handle Photoshop etc well wouldn't it?
