Disable Speedstep enable max performance

Thread Starter
I have an Inspiron 9300 and I want to disable speedstep and run the cpu and its maximum speed at all times, is there anyway to do this? I looked throughout the BIOS and could only see how to disable it. Any help is appreciated thanks!

Just set your prefs for "on battery" to max performance? Not sure if Im missing something or not...

in power options set it to Aways On. You can also use SpeedSwitch and set it to max performance. XP Power Options Always On, will keep it at always on for battery time as well though. SpeedSwitch will give you the option to be at max while plugged in and save battery while un plugged, but also gives you a quick easy way to modify the battery setting if you need the max during battery option, or want to take advantage of the minium to extend battery time.

Vista does not have same options as XP.

I can't figure out a way to stop SpeedStep in Vista either!!!

Didn't I see that there is a new NHC for vista now? Download NHC and you set it to force the CPU to always run at max speed.

Make sure when you go to that site you scroll down to the BUGFIX version for Dell machines.

...Vista power scheme setup is insanely complicated imho. They should have instituted a basic & advanced settign that was a little more user friendly.

My screen kept going to lowest brightness after installation, couldn't figure out how to use nvidia powermizer on NHC, gave up and uninstalled.

Well you should have asked us for help before removing it. The answer is simple. In the graphics tab on Vista NHC you will see the LCD brightness control option. it dictates the brightness level of the LCD under AC, high battery, med battery, and low battery levels.

Those settings in the new version of NHC don't actually do anything. Changing them doesn't affect my brightness levels at all, and NHC still messes with them.

The new Vista-compatible version of NHC is incredibly buggy, but it's still a lot better than nothing!

hmm...That is odd, my screen brightness adjust as soon as I changed those settings in NHC

To get the highest screen brightness, you have to go to battery, and on right bottom area of the panel, choose 66% (which doesn't really make sense to me, but it worked)

P.S. not windows control panel, but choose it on NHC battery panel.
