how is acer's complete care?

Has anyone purchased Acer's Total Coverage? What do you think of it? It doesn't look as "complete" as Dell's since it only covers one service a year(probably to avoid people that break things on purpose to get a new notebook) but it covers spills and cracked LCDs.

Tried to fix the link. When I emailed them what exactly it covers this is what they replied back:

Thank you for contacting Acer America. *The Total Notebook Protection plan covers accidental damage such as breaking the LCD or spilling liquid in the computer. *You would get one free service per calendar year. *If more than one service is needed, the deductible is $150.00 per service for accidental damage.

Well... I purchased it, but haven't really used it yet, or hopefully ever. I did have one of the badly printed keyboards - the markings rapidly rubbing off - and Acer sent me the new and improved overnight, but there was no mention of it being because of the extended coverage, it just seemed to be regular warranty care.

I just brought my laptop last week, and I want to know how to purchase Acer's complete care if I still could since I didn't get it while ordering the laptop.

They offer a three year plan too, which is comparable to Dell's with the exception that they don't have on-site service. That was almost a deal breaker for me, but in the end the laptop was just too good at too good a price to pass up.

Jami1, when they sent you the new keyboard, was it easy to replace yourself? I forsee myself having to replace mine, since I type too many papers and reports to count and end up rubbing off the letters on my laptops fairly soon. I'm always apprehensive about opening my laptop up myself...I do have the three year plan, but is it easy enough to do?

Jami1 - I bought the extended "Acer Advantage" warranty from PC Connection. I don't know if there is a time limit after the purchase of the computer itself, but the warranty sale seems to be treated as a wholly separate item. All it is is a little folder with a serial number that then has to be activated on Acer's web site.

Airscottie - Actually I was the one who had to replace the keyboard. Acer has a photo-illustrated document on their web site how to do it here:

http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/for...yboard&pupv=pu

The three things the document leaves out are: 1) Finger nails can pry off the keyboard cover without a plastic screwdriver. 2) The keyboard ( or was it the cover above the keyboard? Hmmm...) has to be pryed up from right to left because there is an anchor tab on the left side not mentioned in the documentation. 3) The keyboard ribbon has no actual connector. It's just a bare ribbon that is held into a slot on the motherboard by a tiny snap-in wedge. Figuring that out took some courage. Oh - and getting the new ribbon in straight and the wedge back in straight took some patience. But the whole process took maybe ten or fifteen minutes to swamp keyboards.

But you can look at your keyboard and tell if the letters are going to easily wear off. The bad keyboard had what looked like a one-step process to paint on the lettering - the paint looked almost roughed edged and flat. The good keyboard has an obvious clear-coat over-printing over the actual white paint of the lettering (i.e. if you look closely, the actual white paint is surrounded by a clear margin in the form of each letter) which holds up very well.

Thanks Lackland. I have the new kind, and I guess it should hold up well. Even though it's not that hard, I hope I don't have to do it, haha.
