Ready to push "Buy" but have some 7700 questions... - Page 2

it seems like it's simply a toss up for you right now, shazza.

based on your first post, you said you will mostly be using this computer at home, which should point you in the direction of a desktop, which is cheaper, more powerful, and more stable than a 7700. (and it will most likely ship much faster than a laptop)

but you also like the mobility of a laptop. the thing about the 7700 is that it is a mobile desktop (desktop replacement), and to me, that was the most attractive thing about it. i too use my computer mostly at home, but whenever i want to take it to a friend's house to lan for a little bit or bring it to a long day at work, nothing beats it (except the xps2 of course). i, personally have never used the 7700 on my lap, and i never plan to. it gets way too warm under there, and putting it on my lap scares me because it might block the vents and overheat. i once placed my 7700 on my bed (STUPID ME), and it shut off after about 10 mins because it overheated and boy was it scorching.

of course the choice is only yours, and all i can recommend for you to do is figure out if the benefits of having a mobile desktop are more than having a desktop. hope that helped

Love the name calling, keep it coming. Love to see the maturity of some of the replies. The 15 or so times I called AW they all spoke spanish or with heavy accents. Its the way of the computer world now everywhere. Not just Dell.

I am an equal oportunist, I bitch about Dell and AW. When you spend a lot of money on something you want it to be right. So yeah in your link I was complaining in the Dell forum and will make my experiences public for other people who are deciding on spending over 2k of their money on a pice of equipment. Not that I really want to feed to your ego, I do still recommend AW to some coworkers depending on their needs. The reason I do this is because AW treated me right when I asked for a refund and returned my laptop. I did not get a stocking fee charge and they paid to send it back. Unfortunatley that was better service then i got when I had my laptop. But when I do give my advice to people at work I do inform them of my experience with the company and equipment I got. I'm not what you call trolling here, offered this guy some factual advice.

Back on subject, Both are good laptops in their own right. Just so happens the XPS2 fir MY needs better and it bothers some people I guess. But weigh the pros and cons of each. Their are some good opinions expressed here, take them for what they are opinions. I felt I could offer you a fair analysis as I have owned the 7700. Goodluck in your decision.

if you have the money, why not just try before you buy? there's a 30 day return policy w/ aw and only a 15% restocking fee + return shipping. a small price to pay for a serious investment.

you can read countless threads of how great or awful one company is, but past experience can never predict the future. just because you hear something positive from 100 people doesn't you will have those same positive results and vice versa.

my advice, if you truly have your heart set on desktop power + mobility order the 7700 or comparable clevo d900t clone and try it for yourself and see if it's really for you. if so, great. if not, clevo and compal make lots of other laptops. and like gsr suggested, don't discount the desktop realm.

Many people here would seriously argue that "only" 15% is hardly a small price to pay.

ouch... 15% of $2900.00 or some bullshit like that...

Tate's right - I haul my 7700 around during the day in the Targus backpack and I have no complaints. I would use a some kind of lap guard so the fans aren't blocked. The 7700 is worth it if you like speed, power and a hell of a screen.

Maxrule - I don't care what kind of accent anybody has at AW or anyplace else that I call for assistance. As long as they are polite, efficient and help resolve the problem, who the hell cares?

Just to bring closure - thanks again for your comments. Have decided to go with the desktop, just trying to figure out the best config for my needs. Expect to order tomorrow. BTW, have found AW Australia sales to be quite helpful so far...hope that is a good sign.
