Wireless connection drops while gaming.

Hello,

I'm on my 2nd 3790, my first had a bad LCD...

Anyways...Whenever I'm gaming, specifically Halflife2 and Call of Duty, my wireless connection will drop, but only when my system fan turns on or speeds up.

I've tried the latest drivers for the wireless nic and graphics card, and have gone as far as doing a clean install of XP, still the problem persist.

Has anyone expirenced this problem? Anyone have a solution?

Thanks.

I had the same problem during WoW. Are you using a linksys router? I'm using the WRT54G router and have had a number of problems with the signal going from 54 to 1 mps for no reason. It would also periodically drop the signal and boot me from the game.

Finally after looking around on the interweb, I found out that the current drivers for this router doesn't address a packet handling issue. The better driver is the previous version.

So I uninstalled my drivers and installed an older version, found here:

So far, everything seems to be working wonderfully, except when I accidentally push the wireless button and disconnect myself. Hope this helps you out.

Crap I just bought the same router and my laptop hasn't even got here yet.

If I have issues I'll try this driver

No, I'm using Dlink router, but I'll try out these drivers to see what happens. Hopefully this takes care of the problem.

Off this topic....With the drivers Sager posted on their website for the ati 9700...I was unable to adjust the brightness in CoD....Using the DNA drivers listed on this site took care of that problem....

Well my sytem would not take those drivers at all. Strange I know....I tried installing it via the Autorun, and just using the driver itself.

I'm going to keep playing around a bit.

Ok, I never got the other drivers working BUT...I did fix the problem.

In the device manager, right click on the wireless adaptor and select properties. From here click the advanced tab.

In here, set the power to maximum, and the network to only 'B.'

For whatever reason this works. I don't need 54M connection for gaming, so I guess I'm good.

Thanks for the help!

i had the new 9.0.1.0 and the linksys WRT54G and i keep getting randomly kicked off the network. the power settings are set to max/performance so i'll give these drivers a go and get back.

Some light for all of us...

Check this thread: http://www.notebookreview.com/forums...02&whichpage=1, and my answer at the end of: http://www.notebookreview.com/forums...02&whichpage=6

Anyway, it seems that Intel must solve this problem...

hey wow so now i'm using the older 8.1.1.0 driver and i haven't been dropped once. BUT i've also changed the network channel AND added my wireless mac address to the Quality of Service setting which gives it priority over bandwidth. its a linksys feature i don't know if other routers have something similar.
works fine now, and the signal is strong and stable.

having said that, there are times while i'm surfing when the browser will just go "dead", and i get a Page Cannot Be Found or Invalid Syntax Error page but i'm still connected to the network.

also interesting is when i use the command prompt cmd.exe to ping various sites the packet requests almost always time out and i get 100% packet loss.
