Yes they are. And your point is?

By the way, tech support guy number one, so far has no clue. He said someone else will call me back within 10 minutes.

Maybe someone should try to press one of those buttons during boot, before you return it... if it works for them during boot, but not for you, then you have a defective notebook... but if it turns out to be software controlled, then it could be a bug in some software...

My buttons don't light up during boot or after boot, but it would be nice if someone could test it that way.

I got through to Dell via chat after being disconnected from the tech support phone call twice. They are sending me a box kit to return it to the Depot, whatever that is, for repair. I guess I'll back up the drive and do a Dell restore before it goes. What a pain in the neck.

By the way, the chat tech at least appeared to know what I was talking about. I had to send the phone tech to the website to read the specs for the 9300 because he had no clue whatsoever. He kept referring to the lights next to the power button.

Instead of getting the lights to stay on, I want to be able to have the screen stay off when I press the buttons and the laptop is closed. Everytime I press a button while watching a movie I get a bright white beam shining out from my laptop until the display shuts off. Just a pet peeve.
