toshiba 4030 blink codes please?

Hey all, nice forum you have here! I'm wondering if anyone can help me out. I have an old 4030cdt that i'd like to get going so I can donate it to my sister's non-profit medical group, but i'm having a power up problem. upon pushing the power button, the machine briefly tries to turn on (i "tick" sound is heard by the HD) then the power led flashes orange (big surprise, huh). This thing is old as dirt, so I'm too cheap to spend the 10 bucks on the service manual.

this machine was working perfectly only days ago, and all I have done since then is unplug and remove the LCD and LID, then replace, so I'm fairly certain I just knocked something loose or something.

Anyone who already purchased the service manual CD from ebay care to post the LED blink codes for this machine? I'll be forever in your debt (non-contractual, of couse

BTW in case you actually care the observed blink code is:
(s=short, l=long)
s-l-s-s-l-l-l-s

thank you kindly, --scott

Hmm lets see..

s-l-s-s-l-l-l-s .. this is an 8-bit binary code, you need to convert it to hex to figure out what it is..so:

s-l-s-s-l-l-l-s would be read from the end to beginning so:

s-l-l-l-s-s-l-s .. then to convert to hex add these #'s only on the LONG code

8 4 2 1 8 4 2 1
s l l l s s l s

4+2+1=7 2

Hex code= 72h .. checking maintence manual for a 4030 the 72h would mean this:
B2V output (output of PIIMM)

B2V voltage is under 2.13 V, when the computer is booting up.

In short ... You have a faulty Main System board ..

hmm... that's not exactly the answer I was hoping for!!

Thanks so much for your reply, in any case. Any chance you would email me the service manual for this model (to scotto2hot-green@yahoo.com)? I would be willing to send a couple bucks your way via paypal... Just think, this laptop could save the life of a child in guatemala.

you like children, don't you???

The service manual isn't going to help you at all. A faulty motherboard is a faulty motherboard.

Pull the machine apart again if thats all you did before and reseat everything you see.

It's true, a faulty motherboard is a faulty motherboard .. i have hardly EVER needed to use the maintenance manuals.. I would do as Toshrepairer suggested, take whole thing apart and reseat all the cables.. a loose cable could also give the exact same DC-IN LED error codes.

Thanks all for the responses, I figured out the problem. The CPU board had come loose. A reseat was all it took to get the thing to post.

Woohoo! that calls for a headbanging emitcon...

of course, when you solve one problem another creeps right in. In the process of debugging the last problem, a single blue wire (with pin-receptacle) has pulled out of the LCD harness that connects to PJ3 on the mainboard. Now the LCD no worky. If I plug an external monitor in, I can see the TOSHIBA splash screen followed by POST, so I'm hoping all I need to do is get this wire in the right location. If I get it to work, I'll epoxy the whole thing so that doesn't happen again.

Anybody happen to know the pinout for that connector? If I knew which pins were stuffed on the harness, I could figure it out that way.

you guys rule. --scott

I emailed you the pin assignments for PJ3 for a 4030CDT.. I'm not sure if this will help you or not, since it doesnt really tell you which wire is the blue wire, but you can compare with what is already in place..
