backlit keyboard

Hey guys,

just wondering what the differences are between the 1.33GHz and 1.5GHz 15.2" powerbooks. I know the 1.5GHz is newer, and has 5400rpm HD instead of 4200rpm HD. Also, does the 1.33GHz model have the backlit keyboard? Both come with 512mb PC2700 ram upgradable to 2gig. Anyother differences, or are they basically the same machine?

Yes the 1.33GHz 15" Powerbook has the backlit keyboard but the new 1.5GHz version (end of January update) has a significantly brighter back light. 10% brighter according to Apple.

hey,

where did you read that the LCD backlight was 10% brighter?
anything else different other than the HD being slower on the 1.33GHz model?

MacWorld Magazine.
The new Powerbooks also have the new scrollpad and a shock protected hard drive.

i read this article, and it said the new 1.67GHz 15.2" powerbook has a buncha better features including brighter backlit keyboard, 2-finger scrolling, and faster HD.

rocketman,

when you said that the 1.5GHz version had a 10% brighter backlight, you meant the backlight for the keyboard, not the LCD right? The LCDs on the two models should be the same right?

I'm planning on buying the 1.33GHz 15.2" powerbook from:

which model is this one? Cause' it has the ATI 9700 video card that the current 1.5GHz model has. I'm so confused....

only 10%?? In May's edition of Macworld it states that it is "10 time brighter -- according to Apple. Someone got confused.

10 times??? There's no way, you'd blind yourself at night, unless the originall was really that bad.

the last gen - iirc wasn't the 1.33 15" without superdrive a bto to get the backlit keyboard?
Oh yeah, I meant 10 times brighter. 10% is not a significant difference. Yes you did have to have the superdrive version of the 1.33GHz model to get the backlit keyboard.

so that model of the 1.33GHz 15.2" powerbook won't have the backlit keyboard since it's only a combo drive? doesn't have 2-finger scrolling either does it?

Nope but you can use SideTrack for scrolling:http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/sidetrack/
I believe there is also a way to implement the new trackpad software on older Powerbooks but I'm not positive. Do a google search and search MacNN.com

apple.com says its brighter for 15 and 17" but I don't think that's the case with the 12" ?
12' doesn'thave a backlit keyboard. and yah it appears i wasright a combodrive 1.3 off the shelf did NOT have the backlitkeyboard, that was only made standard on all 15"s with this last rev.

really? booooooo

well i'm going to hold off buying my 12" as ppl are saying the next big thing that might come is in a few weeks near the end of april.

Maybe a 12" Widescreen PB will come out? Anyways i'll still prob get the 12" 1.33Ghz, just at a cheaper price
post #16 of 19
will be june at least.. and that would be an announcement, i can't see shipping pre august.. just a heds up.
also maybe the next ibook rev will have a widescreen
post #18 of 19
i doubt that highly.. the q4 doesn't have the resolution for it. and the 12" powerbookwould have to get it first.

yeh, methinks they'd give the novelty stuff to the PBs so ppl have to buy up if they want it. personally i think a 12" widescreen is a bit skimpy for any degree of vertical viewability of documents. i like the 4:3 ratio in everything up till a 23"+ display, and then of course we ain't talking bout laptops. in a lappy, 13.3" is as small as i'd go. but to each their own, tho i am open to a change of mind.
