I get to shout out now! I got most of the stuff installed, and all I can say is damn. It is heavy, but as long as you have some form of muscle mass you'll live. and If not, you'll build it fast. all I've played so far is halo (all I had) and it played really nice. I'll do a review sometime soon.

It was not noisy at all, but that was apparently because the fans were not fully on, and the CPU temperature climbed quickly to above 70C.

I spoke with a Sager support person, who told me that F10 would turn the fans all the way on. After I did that it became a fair amount louder (though the volume was not objectionable), and the CPU stayed cooler. But (I surmise) the heat stress had been too much for the graphics card, as it lost the ability to start up in anything more than VGA mode.

I RMA'd it, and I'm eagerly awaiting its return.
We are having a Video problem very similar to what you just described. A 7620 that is exactly 1 month old started crashing yesterday for no apparent reason.

A few minutes after booting artifacts appear and the system crashes. We removed the video driver and it runs fine in VGA. I installed the latest stable Omega drivers and that seemed to solve the video problem but the system became unstable. The odd thing is that we booted the machine up under MEPIS Linux and it ran fine at hi res.

We reinstalled XP today and as soon as the video driver was installed it started crashing again. It certainly sounds like the video card is the problem but we haven't seen any fan or heat issues with this machine.

Is anyone else having similar problems?

That is exactly how it started on ours. We got a serious error message in XP and XP shut the driver down reverting to VGA resolution. Within a minute or two the system crashed. Once the problem started it happened on every XP boot from then on with the driver installed.

So what have you done Lou, did you send it back or do you have something else going on?

Keep us informed about your problem solving, ok?

I talked w/ Sager tech and they said they haven't heard about these problems yet so I emailed them all my info + some of the info copied from this thread, waiting for a reply.

Lou, Everyone,

I have had my Sager 7620 for 4 days now and I tried to put XP Pro upgrade on it and it has crashed with the ATI Video card. The VGA drivers work fine but as soon as you put any ATI drivers either new or old it crashes on startup. What can be done about this? The 7620 as I have been reading is a great machine but I can't deal with the video issues as I use this for business.

Help anyone at Sager please before I return it! All If I do return this, is there another Sager line that is as good as this or better?

Lou,

We need to talk. I as well as Crafter are having the same issues. I have called tech support (as well has Crafter) and Sager is replacing the ATI Video card and supects this as the issue. Can you send me some updates of your issue so we can get some directed help here with this issue? My e-mail is sales1@pavnh.com (take off the 1 from sales). I am sending mine in this evening and will hopefully get it back early next week.

Hi guys
Has someone of you a CATV-Module inside now?
IN my Sager there is none
The support told me that it isn't available now.

I am having severe issues with using Linux/Unix Live CD's I have tried Knoppix, Auditor, and FreeSBIE all three of them do just about the same thing. It makes it past the BIOS POST shows a loading screen, then locks up. Has anyone had a similar issue?

What is with all these problems? I have had nothing but fun with my 7620. Runs great, plays games, and even works well with Suse 9.3. I'll do a little mini review now.

My system:
3.4GHz EM64T
1GB RAM
80Gb HD

It does get a litttle hot, but if you use full blast (whoever told me that, thank you) it stays at a decent temp. Don't llike windows, so I am dual booting suse. I am dead pixel free! (advice: sacrifice to the pixel gods daily.) No issues with the gfx, and am able to run games at greaat res.

Actually according to Cnet.com the Dell 9300 is 9.4 pounds the Dell XPS at 10.8 pounds. Usually a DTR has a TV Tuner that adds weight. Eventhough the new trend in DTR's with Pentium M processor's they still separate the lightweight and DTR into separate categories.

Sorry, I haven't checked the thread in a while.

We returned the laptop to Sager for repair as it was a day over the 1 month mark. Since repair the laptop has been fine. I will post again if the problem resurfaces.

Thanks,
- Lou
