new version MBM5

Version 5.2.2.0 has been released by Alex Van Kamm...wanted to know if anyone has tried it yet on a 5660.

To quote him directly:

Quote:
I would also like to make clear that MBM depends on your sensor chip and how your board maker implemented it, so if your board maker did not see it fit to connect the sensor chip to the diode of your cpu then MBM will not be able to read it
http://mbm.livewiredev.com/

Just curious if he added support in this version or not. Apparently the install is seamless and will use your old settings (mainly an Nforce2 update).

If anyone knows, thanks in advance.

I tried the older MBM and I was under teh impression that it doesn't support mobile chipsets....

I downloaded it yesterday, but it doesnt support my 8886, perhaps the 5660 (because this one does have one temp sensor to my knowledge)

I'm currrently using MBM 5.2.1.0 on my other boxes but had no luck with that version on my 5660 whatsoever. I appreciate the feedback so far, perhaps I'll try the newer software tomorrow on the Sager & see how it goes (looking for guinea pigs, lol).

Thanks guys & have a great weekend.

I just finally emailed Alex Van Kamm about this and hope for a reply back from him soon, about the mobile chipset support within his program.

The answer I got back from Alex asked what southbridge is used on this chipset???

And if an smbus was found by mbm in the mbm system info? To my knowledge it is not (will have to install and try the new one).

Adam or anyone who knows about the southbridge question, please get back to me.

Thanks Adam...hope the baby is doing well. Hope to have an answer back from Alex Van Kamm later today about this, he's been good about getting back to me so far.

Already got an answer back from Alex on this & this was what he said:

That is supported, so mbm should detect your smbus and thus IF there is a sensor chip it should be found...

Question being now whether there is indeed a "sensor" chip on this beast (I'm thinking not myself).

Adam et al - can anyone tell me how to do this? Just got a request from Alex Van Kamm from MBM 5 about this, to quote his response:

Quote:
That should be supported, if mbm does not find an smbus adress (in the mbm system info) then make me a PCI dump and mail it please
How do I make him a PCI dump? Thanks. I just want this working on my 5660 if possible, like to monitor.

Nevermind...you just click the system info tab, then you can access the dump infomation. I just emailed Alex the sys info dmp, the smbus and pci dmp files, etc. At least he is working with me on this, I see no reason why mobile chipsets wouldn't be supported by his program other than the manufacturer not enabling the chip sensor (s).

Good work! That would be a great tool to be able to use with troubleshooting. Anyone wondering if their cooling system is having problems they can compare temp readings with everyone else.

Thanks, my thoughts exactly. He has all the information now and will be getting back to me soon and will post his answers here.

Sweet! That is good news... All of my friends with desktops have temp displays on their cases, lol. So they would definitely like to see a laptop with this :-) As would I... Thanks for all the hard work wx!!

Just heard back from Alex Van Kamm, MBM developer/programmer, and it does not sound good.

Adam, I need help on this from above from Sager.

Here is his latest response:

Quote:
The smbus is detected however there is no sensor chip on it, the isa scan also shows no sensor chip so are you 100% sure the laptop HAS a sensor chip?
I KNOW there is some type of sensing going on with this lappy, how else do the fans know when to turn on and off, via thermal sensing????
Yes, it monitors the temp from somewhere lol. I'll try and find some more info on it.

Thanks Adam. I mentioned this to Alex about some type of sensing and this was his latest response (I'm close to giving up right now till I can get some info from Sager itself).

there are chip that do what you describe and they don't have any access to them..... so yes you can have a sensor for all this but we might never be able to reach it
Crap!
