5670 and USB lockup

Thread Starter
I have a 5670 with: 3.06Ghz, 1024mb ram, 60gig hd, dvd-rw, windows xp pro. When I am plugged into the wall, there are no problems. However, when I am on battery power and I plug in a usb device, the computer will lock up within a minute. If there is a usb device already plugged in upon power up, it will work for about 2 minutes and then just completely freeze. There is still powe to the usb device, and the screen is still on, but nothing moves, and no keys work (except the force power off key). Any suggestions?

Thanks.

It happens for my printer, mouse, and usb flash card reader. Those are the only usb things I have, so I guess its all usb things.

Try this.

I have to do this on a couple of machines at work. They were not Sagers, but I think that the same thing was going on.

Thanks for the reply, but I had already tried that patch. I installed it again, however, but no luck either way. An other advice.......anyone??

Thanks.

Did you try adjusting power management in the hardware properties window? Right click on my computer and hit properties. Hit hardware and then device manager. Scroll until you find USB controllers. Double click on USB Root Hub, and then click on the Power Management Tab. When on battery power, Windows has the option to disable a device to save power. Try unchecking the box if they are checked and see what happens.

Thanks again for the reply, I tried to make sure the power remained on, like you said, but no luck. Any other advice??

Do you have the most up to date USB 2.0 drivers? Even if you do, try uninstalling and then reinstall them.
