check out this image as your background on the 9300 TrueBlight screen. Looks awesome, or what?

Moon's not round in widescreen, though, but hey, who says it's this planet?

Received my 9300 yesterday, am 90% happy.
Amazed at the size of it, and the weight too. This thing is massive!

My box included a ton of cds (I think like 6 or more) came with Windows, driver cd, etc etc, manuals blah blah blah.

The 10% i'm not sure about is the light leakage on top and bottom of screen (nothing too major but still, I dunno I think this forum brainwashed me). My old Sony laptop doesnt have light leakage at all, so hmmmmmmmm don't know...
I dont really see sparkles, maybe a bit of a sheen but, you'd have be like really close up to the screen? It's actually quite a sexy screen otherwise!

Oh, I wouldnt trust the Dell tracking system at all. My status is stuck on order confirmed still. And BaxGlobal page just says Customs Cleared. If you really wanna know where your box is, give them a call on the phone...

Tried 3dmark, I don't know too much about scores,
but something like 2980's just out of the box.
Anyway, all in all, good machine, very good

Now what to do with that light leakage hmmmmmmm...

to answer an earlier question about the LG/Samsung. Yes, the LG definitely had much better black and color quality to it. the samsung black is a little washed out (some grey especially towards the bottom of the screen). but, you only really notice this when the screen goes to all black. personally, i'd rather have the samsung b/c the sparkles from the LG were (for me) unbearable for more than an hour or so.

I love mine. Just check out the sig. This laptop has the exact specs I have always wanted...

This is the best Dell I have ever had.....and folks I have had them all......An XPS2 down under would be good!!!!

I love my machine. I'm the envy of my friends when I showed it to them. The lappy is a monster for size but I expect it to be much heavier but lo nd behold, its weight is just adequate and can be lugged around with no problems.

@kobranet

Yes, it's the Samsung: model SEC5557 (via Powerstrip).

Any particular reason why you ask?
I'd rate myself as 75% happy. The Samsung's "not black black", the light leakage, and the dark corners bothers me more than the sparkles. I've been through 3 screens now though and I don't think my luck is going to get any better. So I'm taking a chance and hoping that someday Dell will fix it and I can just ask for a replacement then.

Other than that, I'm happy with everything else, but the screen is a big deal to me.

Also, kudos to Dell for the screen swap. I had an LG with sparkles, called them, took 15 minutes on the phone, they shipped a Samsung the next morning! Swapped it myself, took 20 minutes. Mailed it back to Dell the next day...
Did they say that your warranty would be void now that you've replaced it yourself?

I just received my 9300, had a lot of trepidation after reading the posts in here, but have to say I love the screen, have no idea what it is, probably just as good too, as it seemed to quell preconceived notions. I have some problem with my CD/DVD drive not opening all the way, which Dell will be held accountable for, but overall I am impressed with the machine.

9300 is aces. All around. My LG screen is bright clear and minimal on the light leakage. Jackpot. I had to install FarCry just to take the 6800 for a spin and wow, what a show. Excellent framerate and detail. Havent been able to get my gamepad to work w/ fc.

Can I even use my pad in fc, first time playin that too.

9300 rules. worth the wait.

Ohh just asking because you said on your Samsung the blacks are deep black and colors are vibrant... i found on my replacement Samsung that blacks are definately more greyish black, especially compared to the LG that it replaced. The LG had too many other issues though. I might ask for another Samsung to see if I manage to get one with blacks that look more like black than grey. Its most noticeable down the bottom because of some obvious light leakage, really sucks too cause I like to have dark/black backgrounds but they look crappy now.

ahh well *sigh*

Love it, never had a laptop of my own so getting one of the best on the market has been a real blast. Just hit over 4000 in 3DMark05 and just over 60,000 in Aquamark. This video card is incredible. And only the Coolbits reg hack so far, no new drivers yet. I don't think I'll even bother. This way when really solid drivers come I can just do an 'upgrade' and pull a few more frames out of a game in a year or so.

Glossy coating is fantastic, I have a Samsung which has the light leakage at the bottom and slight darkening in the top two corners but nothing major. The brightness could be a little higher, but is more than enough at night when putting on a dvd. I think I now know what 'sparkle' is, though my screen doesn't have much at all. I imagine what I have and a bit worse is what people are seeing on their LGs. It's a tossup between the LG and the Samsung for different reasons but I see myself sticking to the Samsung. The light leakage is really only an issue on dark backgrounds, which are rarely on my computer anyway.

Overall awesome, raw speed. The video card has amazing overclocking potential which I have only tapped the surface of. The construction is the best I have seen apart from the Sony series. Very solid, well built. Metal LCD cover, which is awesome. Metal in all the right places. Very very nice to use. Keyboard is great. Everything is great. No complaints whatsoever aside from the screen, which is a minor issue in my opinion.

9300... What an animal!

Well im happier than a pig in mud. I had my 9100 for 6 months before the motherboard fried every time it got hot or something? Who knows but then Dell took longer than 7 days to repair and they sent out a techie to replace my mb and the lcd cover which happened to be badly scratched cos someone hadnt screwed a screw all the way in so each time i opened my lappy it would scrape the plastic but I didnt even notice. Plus when the techie was opening my lappy he told me they had used the wrong screws inside and said I should complain. Well I did and told them I reckoned my 9100 was crap cos it bombed out after 6 months and they probably sent me a refurbished unit cos surely the factory wouldnt use the wrong screw etc etc. Well technical support decided to swap same for same and I thought ok but then three weeks ago they discontinued the 9100 and so I got a call to ask whether I would take a 9300 instead. what a laugh after I had asked if I could pay in an get a 9300 an they said no they couldnt do it for me. So my 9300 arrived two days ago, less than a month since my 9100 started to act up. I just got off the phone to tell them it wont fit in my bag and they are now sending me a new bag and I can keep the old one. Oh and yeah the 9300 compared to my 9100............... no comparison. The 9100 ruled but the 9300 is just one mean machine.

You know, since you asked about the blacks (thanks a lot kobra! hehe, j/k), I did notice last night that under different light conditions, I get different quality levels of black. Here, at my workplace office under flourescent lights (typical 4ft rods, total of 8 of them, I believe, in my small "hole," aka office), blacks are BLACK. But, when I took a look last night at my home office, with somewhat dim sunlight, it came through as less of a deep black, inching toward grey. It would seem to make sense that your light source would make a difference.

At my home office, I also noticed more light leakage from the bottom but it's minimal, fraction of an inch.

Still, I'm happy with the screen since blacks are not my typical background.

100% satisified right out of the box. No issues to note (including screen sparkle). The first thing I always do when I get a new machine is make sure all the patches/drivers are updated. I've also installed a Creative PCMIA Audigy 2 card with the most recent drivers and have experienced none of the issues other users seem to report. Lucky perhaps, but then again I'm not nearly as picky as some appear to be.

This is a seriously sweet machine.

I love my i9300. Its the best notebook I've ever had till now. One that actually surpasses my expectations, but of course if I can get hold of a iXPS2, I'll gladly change without hesitation.

This is my first Dell (though we're a 100% Dell server shop at work, my prior notebook was a Sony Vaio ultralight), and I'm happy as a clam. The whole process was great: Price was substantially below the competition with similar specs. Ordered 3/19, with 4/3 quoted delivery. Shipped 3/28 and delivered on 3/30, four days early. Everything worked fine out of the box.

I'm using it primarily as a wife/livingroom-friendly desktop substitute for games, websurfing and graphic/video editing. The geForce performs solidly for HalfLife2 & Doom3 (running d3 in 1920x1200).

The WXGA+ Samsung display looks great - no issues.

I have the 7200rpm 60gb drive some have mentioned - my box is very qiet. No drive noise, and the fan cycles on as a very small amount of low level white noise. The two speaker+mini-sub woofer even works well as-is for games and dvd's.

The only "negative" on my whole order is that I chose to order with 512mb of ram instead of a gb. HalfLife2 runs fine but peps up it's load times with more ram, so I'm tossing in 1gb of transcend 4200 DDR2 from newegg.
