Thread Starter
I'm going to be a freshmen in college next year and i'm plannin to buy a laptop from dell. I was wondering what month dell usually has the best deals on laptopts.

I don't know of any particular time of year, but usually look for the big coupons i.e. 35% off, or $750/800 off. Here is a link that would help.

Dell usually introduce pretty good coupons at the and of July and early August, during the back to school period. However, they have not been anything close to the 35% off that we have seen. BUT, 35% off coupons were very rare until last month, so who knows what they are gonna do this year.

I think you should take the deal now that 35% off or the 800 off is good and i think pretty soon with all this screen returns they will pump the price just to balance out the cost of sending some people op to 3 screens replaements i also think the coupons where just to launch the 9300 and xps 2 it just makes everyone want one and show it to there friends thats how dell sells word of mouth.Just imagine you sitting in class watching a new movie wide screen on that nice silver big dell lap top people will be asking you about it and there gonna want one it works all the time.I would jump on that 800 or 35% off its gonna be gone soon i bet.Even guys who would never consider Dell are buying the 9300 and the xps2 because there the most hard core laptops right now theres no other laptops with those specs, i know i looked everywhere since i wasnt a big dell fan but once i seen the coupon i was sold man i saved about 1500.00 compared to the note book i was gonna buy and my 9300 has better specs!

How about this?

Technology always continues to improve. So I would think you should buy the laptop just before you need it. However, "just before you need it" in combination with one of the Dell coupons. So, end of July, beginning of August, start to keep your eyes open for the latest Dell coupons and when they come out, make the buy immediately. Also, you will end up having the unit a couple of weeks before school starts so that you can get it all setup.

Maybe in July you can start deciding on your configuration. You can post it on this board and we can help you figure out how to best spend your money. That way, when your ready to buy, you will already know how much money you want to spend, what unit to purchase, and what configuration you would like.

Hope this help.

I dunno if you have heard this or not, but check your schools website for possibly additional discount. Depending on what school your going to, you can possibly get another 5-10% off. This helped me out a ton getting my 9100. It all depends on what school your going to.

But, also keep in mind. . .if you got one now, you could use it over the summer with all your "senior road trips".

I know I'll be taking my 9300 along (expected early next week) and keeping a nice little online photo/video journal of everything we get ourselves into. . .

I mean, if you're gonna be using it for at least two more years, what hurt could an extra 2 months do?

Just make sure to find a 35% off coupon like I did. . .!! I was originally waiting until July to get one through the university discount (which is nothing compared to 35% off), and I found the coupon and decided to go for it while I could!!

Also keep in mind that pentium m prices will drop big by July, so even without coupons we should see a price drop from dell.

It seems like Dell always puts out their big coupons near the end of the quarter. I heard that they dont mind taking a cut in profit in order to boost up sales figures.

Why?? I'm looking for the i6000. It will be my first notebook, and theprimary PC (my destop die 2 days ago). Is better to wait until July? Will be a big drop of prices?

Prices drop heavily just before a new model comes out. Many people on this forum follow the market pretty closely (being the psychotic enthusiasts we are), so if you follow things here for a few months, it'll be pretty obvious when to buy.

I've been told that their Inspiron/Dimension profit margins are razor thin to negative. Their Lattitude/Precision/OptiPlex lines do them much better.

It depends on if you need it now and what you consider big. Intel announced price drops by about $100-200 per chip 2Ghz and below. But they won't take effect until July. But we don't know how much that will affect Dell's prices. As far as waiting on computers, it's almost always better to wait if it's more than a month.
