I think you need to be careful...its my understanding that the W3V comes from ASUS with only 512MB of RAM, and if it is upgraded at all (even by the retailer) that the warranty is void...you better look into that, check out proportable.com at the bottom of their W3V page, they have some info on the situation

In their website, they also offer the ensemble without any modification and with the 2 year asus global warranty. As to the customized, the offer is for their (reseller) warranty.

I agree though to look very carefully in the warranty for asus products as this is a hot topic in other threads.

You're right that if you modify an ASUS "ensemble" notebook it voids the warranty (this is true for almost all computer companies who sell pre-built laptops).

The easy way around this is to add another stick of 512mb RAM yourself and if there is ever trouble with the notebook, take the aftermarket RAM out before you send it in. Duh.

also... since then the price has dropped to 1899.. if that changes your mind about it... also... ive been reading if you personally add ram to it after you get it and change it back if it ever needs service you should still get the warrenty... and the warrenty has been extended to 3 years for the global asus according to proportable... seems like a good buy to me...
