Head over to MSI's laptop forum and read my FAQ, benchmark results and more in this thread. If you don't have your own account in MSI's forum, and don't feel like registering, you are of course free to post your own experience, questions and comments here.

(I'm not posting a copy of it here to avoid having to maintain two versions.)

Hey, do you know anything about the MR9800 in the MSI 510? Gericom (www.gericom.com) , an MSI reseller in Germany are currently offering one (called the 'EGO') with MR9800 (apparently not a typo) and I'm interested in doing a small upgrade from the 128 MR 9700.

This sure is news to me, and quite interesting news too. From what I can see, I guess you're talking about the Ego 1780.

First of all, I'd like to say that people seem to confuse the MSI Megabook M510A with the M510C. Having studied the product pictures on MSI's webpage, I have found that the M510A has a silvery finish with dark grey on the sides. The M510C however, is all pearl white.

Thus, looking at the pictures of the Gericom Ego 1780, I conclude that it has to be MSI Megabook M510A based. Now, the specifications on the product page for the M510A here , says this:

Quote:
Graphics & Video Module: ATi® MOBILITY™ RADEON™ 9700/9600 with external 64MB VRAM
This isn't completely correct since I have the Mobiliy Radeon 9700 with 128 MB memory. I'm really astounded if it's also true that you can get the M510A with the Mobility Radeon 9800 as well, as all this could indicate that it's possible to upgrade the GPU. I'd sure like to have that Mobility Radeon 9800!!!

The m510c is available in the US in white OR silver/gray, so it could be that model.

I haven't heard of any of the msi models with the 9800, they aren't thick enough to provide the active cooling necessary to run that gpu. From the pics of the ego 1780, however, it does look like the msi model.

Would be interesting to hear more from someone who has ordered one.

aidon,

What does the V in vram mean? Virtual Ram? Is this the same as shared ram or dedicated?
