2nd HDD for 9860

Thread Starter
Hi,
If i want to get a second hard drive to set up a RAID configuration, does it have to match the original exactly (ie manufactor) or is it enough to just be the same size/speed?
Does anyone know what brand the 7200rpm, 60g HD sager use?
thanks for any info,
Rob

The hard drive in the 9860 is the Hitachi Travelstar. It is, as far as I know, the only 7200 rpm notebook hard drive that exists. As for RAID, if you are doing RAID 1, the array will only be as big as your smaller HD, so it would be best to match sizes. For RAID 0 I think it doesn't matter, but if you get a 5400 rpm hard drive for RAID 0 you won't see much of a performance benefit (although you already won't if youre RAID 0'ing on the parallel ATA channel)

I'm fairly certain Toshiba does a 7200rpm drive. And I was under the impression that size and speed matching were essential when looking to RAID and manufacturer matching was preferable.

For Raid 0 they have to match as well - with the same speed and Size
