Is this card sufficient for gaming????
Not really, it's roughly equal to a 9200 I believe...maybe for older games it would work well, but nothing terribly recent...

We need more info, price range, desired features (screen size, etc...), uses you will have for it, what games you would like to play, how portable do you need it to be, etc...

Dell 9300

P-M 1.73
17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
60GB 7200rpm Hard Drive

games -- mostly sports titles, possibly 1st person shooters??

definately go with the 6800go then
$150 for 256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 6800 is definitely worth it

an x300 in a dell 9300 is a waste of money

u have to go with the 6800 go, anything else in that machine will be pointless for gaming. The x300 is really not nuff for gaming, especially for new games like css and doom 3.
6800go no doubt at all

If you don't have enough to spend, then drop down to a lower CPU:
For any gaming machine, 1GB RAM and 6800/X800 are a must.
x300 = 9600, new games will run but will look like crap, i woulnt' go lower than an x700/6600 though cuz you can get those at a good price, x300 is more for office work and stuff cuz its cheap

X300 = no. It's slightly better than an integrated intel solution.

It's pretty bad, one of my friends tried to use a X300 machine at a LAN party, and it barely got over 10 fps on UT 2004. That was pretty miserable. Even the 9600 on my Gateway beat it by a healthy margin.

I would never buy a laptop with one of those in it, except maybe an ultra-portable or an IBM T series

Although this X300 was in a desktop, one of my friends benched CS: Source and got 50 FPS in 1024x768, thats better than the 5200 in my desktop, sure it isnt a card for a gamer, but light gamers can use it.

The X300 is way ahead of the GeForce 5200. I saw some benchmarks that showed the GMA900 was on par with the GeForce 5200. So the new intergrated graphics are not bad compared to the 5200. In the benchmark, the X300 was actually not far behind the 9700.

some benchmarks of the desktop x300. Its not bad, but at the resolution that he will be gaming at and the system he will be getting, its like buying a ferrari enzo with a 4-cylinder engine.

Do WHATEVER YOU CAN to get the 6800 Go over the X300. It is several TIMES faster. Throw in a slower CPU if you have to, you'll still get way better gaming performance.

x300 is supposed to have no dedicated memory so it is utter crap

No the X300 has between 32 and 128 MBs of dedicated memory depending on which one you buy.
