128MB ATIs™ Mobility Radeon™ X300 - Page 3

Somone did a test of benchmarks on this forum, the x600 performed the same (nearly exactly) as the 9700... it's not slower.
mrx600 is probably the same speed as a mr9700 not an actualy Radeon 9700.

The list above is DESKTOP graphics cards, not notebook.

In notebooks, the MR9700 is actually the same as the MR9600/X600, but with a different clockspeed.

In desktops, the 9700 Pro actually has more pipelines than the 9600.

gee... I think someone has difficulty dealing with the fact that the GPU in their notebook is a POS.

The 9700m is based on the Radeon 9600XT. The 9600XT is a piece of crap. Therefore, by definition, the 9700m is also a piece of crap. They're both hysterically slow, and they both have ridiculously small amounts of memory bandwidth.

I'm glad it meets your (obviously very low) standards. I'm afraid I have a hard time taking anything based on a budget chip (yes, a $150 9600XT qualifies as a low end graphics card as far as I'm concerned) seriously. If it can't run Doom 3 @ 1920x1200 (1920x1440 for 4:3 screens) with the detail settings maxed out and maintain at least 30fps (or close to it), it's simply not worth my time. The 9700m is simply too slow for that; Radeon 9800 Pros have a hard time with it-let alone 9600XTs-so as far as I'm concerned, it's a disgustingly underpowered piece of crap.

For a notebook the 9700 is a very nice card, and for my small 13.3" screen it can play games like doom 3 with high settings. No I do not have very low standards, I just sold my Alienware notebook and am ready to build a high end desktop.

Prob you think my new Z71V 6600GPU is crap too?
By my standards, your 9600xt is crap. It's a personal opinion thing. I expect a reasonable level of performance (reasonable by my definition). The 9600XT can't give it to me.

I saw your review thread of the Z71V. The benchmark scores you posted that relate to the 6600 are marginal. They're a good bit lower than what I get with the Dell XPS... They're mostly acceptable for today's games, but I wouldn't want to be stuck with that thing 6 months or a year down the road.

The slowest GPU I'd get in a notebook with upgradeable graphics if I bought one now would be a regular 6800/256MB or X800/256MB. If it was unlikely that upgrades would be made available at a later date, I wouldn't go any lower than a Mobile 6800 Ultra.

Right on,

With the New ATI R520 cores and the NV48/50 rumours heating up, we will see a new generation of graphic cards out within the next couple of months. The Mobile X800 will even be left in the dust, and the 6800Go will be crawling compared to the speed of the new cores,

especially if you imagine what would be like to have 2 NV 7800GTs in SLI; and in the fall, 4x GPU solutions will be released. By September/Oct of this year, M X800 and 6800Go will hardly be able to play any of the new games coming out, with respectable frame rates, then. Buying these cards right now is a colossal waste of money that could be wisely invested into a new generation of cards.

The 6800 Ultra Go will not be suddenlt made obsolete by the release of a new generation of cards. New generations of cards tend to be 50% faster, which doesn't make a mobile GPU obsolete, especially when the 50% faster card is in a desktop.

SLI is stupid, and 2x7800GTs alone would cost more than en entire computer with a midrange card.

the 6800 won't be obsolete for a long time. it will still be able to run games for at least another 3 years.

my 4 year old geforce 4 ti 4600 still runs most of todays games at playable framerates with decent eye candy, including HL2, DOOM3, CSS, WoW.

Soon there will be 4x GPU SLIs, the ones don't go that direction might risk of being left far behind in the dust.

That sounds ridiculus. I am using a Lattitude c600, p1 750mhz chip, 768mb ram, 60 gig 5400 rpm HD, with 8 mbs of integrated graphics memory and I don't have those problems.

I don't think that has anything to do with the x300.

x300 is not worth it

x600,x700,x800,nvidia6600, 6800
are better alternatives

4xGPUs on one board is one thing, 4 video cards is another (And will never happen with PCI-Express cards).

I'm saying that it is extremely stupid to spend $1500 just on the videocards (and the premium of an SLI mobo), no matter how fast they are. Sure, you'll be able to play games released 5 years from now, but with current games, diminishing returns :P

Im in the same boat as the original thread starter. I will game pretty much all summer but none after that. The only game I want to play is CS:CZ. Should I go with the 6800 or x300? It just seems to me that the nvidia will be alittle overkill since I will only game during the summer(but pretty much every day)
