Help with R3000 series dvd burner part number.

My brother in law owns a "standard" r3000 series laptop purchased from compusa and hp support will not give him a part number for a replacement dvdrw drive for his system. Can someone who customized a 3000 series get a part number for a dvd burner for this system. From what I understand they use the serial numbers on the systems to cross reference parts and a "standard" system serial number can only pull up EXACT parts and part numbers for that system in the database. Again, all I need is an exact part number for a dvd burner, preferably a dvd+/- for a compaq r3000 series laptop. I have a horror story for anyone who hopes to upgrade their "standard" laptop in the, future, you are out of luck. Period.

Try HP parts surfer. It will give all the information needed. Type in the product number of the laptop and search for drives...
