I agree. I'm still on the tried and true 4.12 omegas (not beta). Damn that was a great set of drivers.

Interesting looks like D3 performance got lower but SM 2.0b performance was supposedly increased.
Here's my 3DMark05:
before 5.3 ATI or Omega's = ~1300+
5.3 ATI = 1672
5.4 ATI = 1686

So, 5.4 at least not slower in D3D applications then 5.3.

I dont know if I would take stock in benchmarks like that. I dont think they are a foolproof indicator of performance especially with a 14 point difference. My 2 cents. I think gameplay would be a better indicator.
14 points of difference mean there is no difference . I was surprised by 300-point difference when installed 5.3. But in real games miracle didn't happen...

not long to wait for new omegas (5.3)
"This is the first driver set, based on the ATI Cat 5.2, the next set will be Nvidia, based on the 66.93 official drivers, that will be released on Tuesday (05) or Wednesday (06). Following it will be the ones based on ATI Cat 5.3 next Saturday (09)"
he staggering the releases to let servers cope.
My conversion to 2003 will have to wait till then not installin older drivers just to uninstall a day later
post #11 of 33
Haha yeah I am wiating for the Omega version of 5.3 as well. The ATI drivers from ATI are quite boring to be honest. They dont even have the option of enabling WMV video acceleration in the options tab of the control panel unlike the Omegas.
Thats because it is already enabled.
Ho hum didnt know that thanks for clarifying rct23. Good to know...nonetheless I am switching to Omegas ASAP!
its the 9th now, Where are they!!!!!!!!
I also found a thread in beyond3d where a guy wrote a stress testing program...using .NET platform and found that the 5.4s hit performance in graphics cards kinda bad. Looks like I am going to stick with either what I have or Omegas 5.3 and thats it. Gonna skip 5.4
post #16 of 33
good old 4.12 omega do me fine.. im only interested in trying new ones cuz i had these forever.
no qualms about going back to 4.12 tho
" ATI Omega Drivers Update:

Since ATI released the Cat 5.4 yesterday and according to many people the Cat 5.3 have some problems, I have decided to skip the Omega Drivers based on the Cat 5.3 and go directly to Cat 5.4, but since I have not tested them yet, the release will be done next week, probably next Saturday, in the meantime enjoy the previous release based on the Cat 5.2." damn
post #18 of 33
I'm using the Cats because last time I tried the Omegas I got weird artifacts when playing Sacred. But seems to me that if you ARE using Omegas... who cares if they aren't based on the "just out, paint's still wet" version of the Cats? If the Omegas worked for you BEFORE 5.4 came out, odds are they will STILL work now, and none of your games will lose FPS just because a newer driver is out. Get a grip folks...
Yes I agree 4.12s were da bomb.
no new omegas yet as promised.
damn timezones!
