System Keeps Rebooting over and over

My system has been having some really slow lagging problems lately and now it just reboots over and over and over. It happens right on windows loading. I've tried taking out the battery, the drives, tried taking out each of the RAM sticks and just using one or the other, etc. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas on how I can get this thing to start working again?

System:
Sager 5670
1 GB RAM
2.5 Ghz
40 GB HD

(and luckily I couldn't handle it anymore and got myself a new computer just before this started happening, had the 5670 for about three years now and loved it until lately).

Have you tried a repair install of Windows? It may not be a hardware issue. Some viruses also cause slowness and rebooting as well...

Hardware wise, I would suspect ram and harddrive, as well as blocked cpu fans/cooler fins. For a older laptop, the first thing I would do is open up the lappy over the cpu and blow it out real well. Then I would attempt to boot a Windows cd to see if it reboots on that. If it does, that would eliminate the possibility of a corrupt Windows or virus. It would still not eliminitate the ram/harddrive and I would look there next.

yikes there are numerous threads on this. my 5660 started doing that and then eventually would not boot anymore. my vidcard went bad. not sure if you are having a similar problem or different one. I would back up your hard drive if you can.

Wow! My 5660 just started doing this last night. Is this a problem with older Sagers?

i started getting this problem a few month ago on my 5680. don't know what the problem is. i get a BSOD or the computer just randomly restarts when I start playing games. i also occasionally get BSOD or black screen when I'm watching a movie or just doing some mundane work, such as using Word. this is getting very annoying, since I've only owned this computer for a little more than a year and 1/2.

HOLD ON!!! DONT DO ANYTHING YET!!! try this: hold down the power button for 10 seconds. My vaio desktop had the problem of just restarting and restarting over and over again. Do you mean rebooting in random places or rebooting when the system is booted?

Mine always reboots at windows startup. I'm going to try the suggestion of cleaning and blowing everything out.

Mine is rebooting when the system is booted up? I can't even boot up in safe mode.

MIS is "ghosting" my hard drive. When I get it back, I'll try your suggestion.

As simple as this remedy sounds, it worked on my 5660!

I held down the power button for 10 seconds and it booted right up. It went through CHK DSK and found that some segments were unreadable. It fixed those and shut down and booted right up. I've been shutting it down and restarting it to see if this was just a fluke and no problems. Thanks JC!

I'm going to purchase a new hard drive just in case!

Anyone know where I could take my laptop for a fix for this? Any Sager experts in the SF Bay Area?

Could this be a problem with Windows? A friend of mine is having this same problem with his Dell desktop.

Per Microsoft Knowledgebase I changed the setting so that my computer wouldn't keep rebooting if an error occurred in Windows. That actually stopped the rebooting for awhile, but today instead of rebooting over and over, I got the BSOD. The error message that comes up says "page fault in nonpaged area" (error 0x00000050)

Don't know what that means but after checking Microsoft knowledgebase again, one possibiliy that came up was that the memory module might be bad. I was going to buy more memory anyway so I'll replace the one that came with my 5660.

Hoping that someone more intelligent about computers than I, armed with this information, might come up with a solution for this annoying problem.
