My new Dell M60

Got my Dell M60 in this morning, took some pictures and posted them on my website.

Initial impression is WOW! It's noticeably faster than my Inspiron 8200 which is about 18 months old. I got the 1.7Ghz cpu with the 7200rpm drive, and put in a gig fo PC2700 that I bought separate. The keyboard on the left side is a bit flimsy when comparing to my I8200 and has a click on a couple keys on that side, but nothing worth crying about. Other than that, it seems great. I'll post benchmarks when I get around to it. Not much of a gamer, true test for me will be how fast Oracle grinds out huge procedures.

There had been some debate on the Dell forums whether the M60 can actually use PC2700 or if it just diverts back to 266Mhz like PC2100. Mine is reporting 333MHz in the BIOS, so at least the newer ones do I guess.

I reformatted and damn there's a ton of drivers to install for this thing, I'd been spoiled by my I8200 which didn't require near this many when reformatting.

Nice! I think the whole LOGO thing started with the OJ Trial, when IBM and SONY *gave* their products to the Lance Ito and the lawyers on both sides... seems when the LAPTOP was OPEN, their logo was right-side up for the cameras to give them all that free publicity.

Default orientation would have made the logo upside down when the lappy was open... seems companies are now realizing most people will see the logo while it's open, so orient it for them.

Just my theory,

What's your opinion of the screen (viewing angle, ghosting, scrolling text, etc.)? Thanks!

I will offer up my opinion on the screen. I have the Dell D800, spec'd out with the 1.7 Pentium-M and WUXGA screen, so it's the same exact machine except for the video card. I even bought the 60 GB 7200 RPM hard drive off of New Egg and installed it, so they are basically equal other than the vid. card.

The screen is amazing. All text and graphics are very small, there's no doubt, but the quality of picture and viewing agle is amazing. Sitting at my desk, I am able to bend the screen to essentially any angle and the screen looks perfect. I have yet to see any ghosting and text scrolling sure beats my 15 inch Samsung flat screen I have on my desktop. There's really nothing to complain about when speaking of the screen on this bad boy. Enjoy!

HEY THAT'S MY 100th POST, DON'T I DESERVE A BANANA?

I haven't spent enough time in front of the lcd yet. I use it with a docking station and a 20" Dell LCD. I can tell you with the DVI out from the dock the LCD looks excellent, noticeably better than it did from the dock of my Inspiron 8200.

What little I have used it away from the dock the screen looks great. The type is very small even when compared to my 1600x1200 on my I8200. It's shorter height to allow fo the wide screen does make a difference in text size. I have no dead pixels.

BTW, I got a 18" Dell LCD free with the purchase of my M60. When I put it on ebay I'll post a link on here.
