DDR400 clocking down to DDR333?

I recently had to replace one of my 512mb memory modules. Sager sent me a new PC3200 512mb module, but upon plugging in and running Memtest86 on it, I noticed that it was being reported as 166mhz DDR333. I am not certain if it was reported as this or as DDR400 before replacing it.

My setup is 2x512mb. If I plug in either module, into either slot, it reports the single chip as DDR400 200mhz, but if both modules are in at the same time, it clocks down to 166mhz DDR333.

Is this normal? I do not know what it was like before replacing my RAM.

Thanks,
Chris

what model do you have? i think ram speed depends on your processor's fsb speeds.

I have a Sager 4750 w/ an Athlon 64 3200+ 2ghz.

The sales literature for my computer say it has an 800Mhz FSB.

CrystalCPUID says my System Clock is 200Mhz.

I don't know which one is right. My impression was that FSB x Multiplier = Clock Speed. If that is right, then 200MHz is right, as my maximum multiplier is 10x, but I have a feeling that 800MHz is the correct one. I don't know much about this stuff though.

Thanks,
Chris

Calculated as follows:

Channel speed * Memory Speed * (2 - if you have dual channel)

So, in your case,

200 * 2 (DDR2 Memory) = 400 * (2 - If you have dual channel - SORRY AMDs don't) = 400.

Literature at PC Torque and Sager also indicate a 400Mhz Ram Speed.
