How are you guys getting such good 3dmark scores...?

I just ran mine at 300/700, and it came out at 4700 only. I'm using the XtremeG 71.84 Forcewares and coolbits to overclock. I'm on the Z71V with a 2.0G 133 bus processor and 1g of ddr2-533.

I'm running stock speeds now to see what that comes out with but it seems kinda weird. Also when I ran 321core it froze so I'm probably close to the limit for my GPU. THe cooling on it sucks tho, I couldn't get arcitc silver on there.

Oh I built my unit myself getting the barebones but I don't think that should matter either. I've not yet tried 3dmark05 or forceware 76.44's

Woah WTF. Something's weird here. 1832 un oc'd...

HArd drive question, Geared2play posted this:
40gb 7200rpm / 60gb Sata 5400rpm
Random Seek= 5.03ms / 5.38ms
Linear Seek= 1.82ms / 1.22ms
Full Stroke= 6.15ms / 3.64ms
Trhoughput= 39000kb/s / 35000kb/s

Since the the pata drive is only 40gb, wouldnt a 60 gb 7200rpm pata drive be even slower because there is more space to look through? I do not know much about hard drives, but thats how I would think about it. If this would be the case wouldn't this make the 60gb Sata 5400rpm a better drive to buy because it is faster and uses less battery power than the Hitachi 7k60?

Ok I kinda fixed it. Turned on maximal in RMClock and stock gets me 4025 now. But it's still not the same #'s as everybody else so I'm not sure what the deal is Anybody any suggestions? I"ll play around abit more. Try 05 as well...

so there is a scroll bar by the touchpad?

its hard to see in any of the pictures, but i think i saw a thin line on the right

ALSO have you tried dual screens?
laptop lcd and another crt or lcd? if so, how is the sharpness on both screens?
does the performance lag a little when doing intensive processing such as alot of photoshop/autocad/3dsmax/maya (when loaded on one screen AND if using both screens - one app per screen)
I have a dual screen setup on my desktop w/ an old ati8500 but id love to see comparisons as loading photoshop on one screen and another app on another, rendering lags.

you should get at least 4300 right out of the box without tuning. what else is running in the background?
Yeah that's what I thought as well. Seems.. weird to me. 10% slower than what it should be (clock speeds are 250/400 default).

Well at 300/750 i just got 2215 3dmark05's. I'm running 03 at these speeds but I can't even seem to break 5000 barrier. Kind of annoying, even if it's just a benchmark.

In the background I have symantec antivirus, RMCLOCK, my intel wireless proset, the sound manager, and that's about it.

YOu are going to kill your card putting your memory up to 750. I believe a safe zone should be around 600ish.

Also use the latest 76.44 driver. You should get a boost from it too.

That was just for one run to do a quick check. How did you install the 76.44's and what version does it report in device manager? I replaced my INF but the setup still says no detected hardware. So I just upgraded it via device manager but now the version says 7.1.1.3. I'll rerun some tests to see what happens now.

This is my system:
Asus Z71V
Pentium-M 2Ghz w/2MB L2 Cache
nVidia GO GeForce 6600 w/128MB Video Memory
60GB 7200RPM HD
2x1GB Samsung DDR2-400
Intel Wifi A/B/G
DVD+RW Dual Layer

Smilepac, I followed your lead downloading the XtremeG nVidia Driver v71.84 and replacing the appropriate .inf file.

Video:

Using XtremeG nVidia Driver v71.84
3D Mark 2005: 1759

Using XtremeG nVidia Driver v71.84 (Overclocked to 3d settings: Core Clock 300, Memory Freq 500)
3D Mark 2005: 1978

This is all new to me, so I appreciate all of the tips from those of you posting. Hope my contribution helps. Any guidance appreciated.

This just leaked, so you could try it. It is 76.50, but if you want the 76.44 it is there too

You could download the 76.50 from here...

http://download.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/7650.exe

Afterwards download the INF
http://laptopvideo2go.com/infs/7650inf/nv4_disp.inf

Extract the 7650 to a directory, copy the INF to that directory. Then go to your driver adapter and click on update driver, select the directory location. It will update for you. After you are done, it will say 76.50

Thanks.

I just tried the 76.44's. At 290/590 one pass through gave me 4644. So I'm still quite a ways off from what everybody else is getting and I don't know what the cause of that could be.

Test 1 - 161.1
Test 2- 34.2
Test 3 - 29.1
Test 4 - 21.5
CPU1 - 94.3
CPU2 - 13.9

63.9fps
20.0fps
49.0fps
42.9fps

for tests in that order.

So is this coolbits program the best one in your experience to use for overclocking? Excuse the n00b question but what exactly does a bit of software do to help overclock you GPU? Im also wondering since I read a post by geared to play who said that they did not reccomend coolbits as in their experience was unreliable. They mentioned a different program as an alternate (don't remember the name). Even though Im probably going to be pretty happy with performance once i get my Z7, all this talk about how low it benches bugs me. I just want to make sure that if I try any of these things so I can get a few more digits I won't likely hurt anything, I just really don't want to hurt my first laptop and I definately dont want to put anymore money into it right now (I will later on) even for a return and replacement.

oh and would any one mind giving me some rep or something? I just dont like seeing the lame little message when i hold my cursor over my little green dot. I haven't angered anyone important have I?

I think I have a sparkly screen. I am freaking out and don't know what to do!??!?!

This is my first laptop, my brother has one but it is 4 years old and it does not look sparkly like this. I have a mitsubishi for my desktop and thats clear as day, whit is white but if you look hard enough there is a little there too. Is it just that that is what you get with laptops these days or does mine have a problem? I really do not like it it strains the eyes more. Also is 1600x1050 the only resolution you can use without it looking distorted because the fond is tiny this way???? PLEASE HELP!
I see how to some it could look sparkly, but it really doesnt't bother me...

O, and 1690 in 3DMark05 with stock settings and drivers. Is that good?
Are you going to write a review B?
