Review: SPK -> Asus Z71V Review!!!! - Page 4

wierd! Are both your RAM cards the same amount? If they're not, that could screw it up...
Yup they are both the same. 2x512MB ddr2-533 kingston modules.

And yeah, it's weird. Still can't figure that out or why my 3dmark03 scores are still lower than everybody else's - with a faster CPU, too!!

can you comment on the ram slots? where is the second ram slot?

pic here: http://www.ynot2k.com/products/lapto...v/z71v.h18.jpg shows only one slot

The second ram slot is under the keyboard. You have to unscrew two screws on the bottom that are listed with "K". Then there are three little push pins at the top side of the keyboard - left, middle, right. Push those in and lift the keyboard at the same time (they are spring loaded). Once you get all of those up and the keyboard is lose if you life it you will see the "second" (actually it's the first, I think) RAM slot under there.

Can somone give a detailed explanation on how and where to get and install the 76.5 drivers? I got them from some postings, and I could not get them to work. One said something about not being able to find the file to write to, the other said that there was no hardward compatible with the driver on the computer. Please give instructions.
No idea, I couldn't get the 76.50 to work yet. I got 76.44 working already. but for some reason the 76.50 isn't.. haven't tried it today yet..

Just so you know, the omega drivers based on 71.84 should be out by the 13th/14th of this month...

Okay, finally got the 76.50 driver installed. It was able o boost approx 20 points on the 3D Mark 05 for me.

Download the nVidia 76.50 from www.laptopvideo2go.com and download the INF file. Extract the 76.50 into a directory and copy the INF file to that directory...

To install, right click on your desktop and go to properties. Click on settings, then click on advance.

Click on Adapter, click on properties, Click on driver and then click on update drivers

Click on NO to autosearch, blah blah blah..

When you get to a screen which ask you to

"Please Choose your Search and Installtion Options.."

Click on Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install

From there click on "Have Disk" and chose the location where you had extracted the 76.50 w/ the mod INF file.

It will list all the nVidia card, select yours and install...

This seems to be a very stable version and worked well so far.

I can't download the INF file, I can only see it. Can I just copy & paste? Also, how do I extract to a directory?

right click on the link and select save as, does that work?

you could try copy and paste as well.

ok, I've got the INF file. how do I extract to a directory? the file isn't compressed. I tried putting them both in a folder and updating from there, but my computer keeps saying that there are certain programs that can't be found. Never mind, I figured it out. Thanks!

FYI...

Not sure if everyone noticed, but in the BIOS, there is an option for you to "ReCondition / ReCalibrate" your battery.

Which is useful for those who want to recalibrate the battery every now and then.
I already did it once!

SATA drives are now available for the Z71V builds (and any other system that can handle SATA). You can argue over how fast they may or may not be, but at least now you can try them out.

My reason for finding out the manufacture and more info on the LCD is I want to see if I could find the INF driver info for the LCD. Other companies out there like Fujitsu offer the INF driver for their LCD which specific exactly the resolution and refresh rate it supports and which looks best.

Since this Asus Z71V don't have one, the only one I could see work best now is the max resolution 1600 x 1050. At this resolution, it looks sharp and clear. However it is a bit small as well. This monitor is the first monitor and LCD I've dealt with which only look good with one resolution. Any other it will look blurry and distorted. Which is a bit unforunate, especially for those who want a little lower resolution for clarity due to their eyes.

There must be a way around this...the search continues...if anyone find anything pass it along...

By the way, I spent the day @ Bestbuy, and Fry's Electronic looking all of theirs LCD and Notebook. I have yet to find one that give the look the Z71V is currently giving. Not saying it is good or bad, just can't seems to find anyone of it close.

I find the resolution the perfect size, and I even have cruddy vision
